Download Limitations

My college LAN has put a ridiculous limitation of 10 Mb on all downloads. Due to this I am unable to even get Zone Alarm Updates. Or JDK Mustang also i
I have a few questions
1> As my download manager downloads in threads of 10 how is the Admin able to block download. For e.g Zone Alarm arnd 11 MB dowload in 10 threads each should be accessible.
2> How do I bypass this ? Any thoughts? Maybe through a specific download manager setting (like dowlnoad only a thread at a time) ...

if it is set at the firewall your network admin may be able to either allow you bigger downloads or take the restrictions off so you can update your zonealarm.

I'd call the school. While download limitations are a good thing and should be used by every university/network - 10 megabytes is way too harsh.

They track it by IP address and the physical port you are plugged into. Or if using a proxy they track by your username.

10 MB for each file. If 10Mb total internet access I would have gotten my own net connection even if its on satphone 😀
Anyways thanks all. I think I will talk to the Admin but I don't think that will do much .... 🙁 And you didn't answer my first query
