Download firmware from a drive?

By 'take' do you mean extract\read the firmware from the drive
and save it?

You can only use firmware that is specific to the drive.
Using other version not specfic to it may render the drive inoperable.
(note: unless the driver has been modified for the specfic model - i.e. use @own risk)

I don't know of any software that will do that but you can always check the firmware rev of the working drive and then find that version on the net via Google, download it and then reflash the the nonworking drive.

Yes, sorry couldn't think of the exact word, Yes I want to extract the firmware from a working drive then apply it to another drive that is the same make /model.

Flashing programs generally allow you to make a backup of the
current firmware to disk.

If there is a firmware Flash update available it would require you using that
to extract the data.

Be forwarned that it will more than likely require you to UPDATE the
current firmware on the original drive as just about all Flash programs
do not allow you to abort the flash once it is started.

Or you can do as suggested, try to locate the version firmware by doing
a Google search for it.

What is it you are trying do accomplish?

Well I have one drive that will read cds and one that does not. Both drives are the same make and model so i thought I would take a last ditch effort to sync the firmware of the working drive to the non working drive.

No I have already tried several different versions of the firmware from the company's site. It is a NU Tech DDW082 drive. I have 2 of them and one works with cds the other doesn't I wanted to extract the firmware from the working one and then apply it to the non working one in hopes of getting it to work with reading cds.
