Last CTP notes said X86 only on this one for the time being. Considering they do multiple builds a day, 64-bit will not be 5536, but some later release anyway.

Shame on me for snagging this on my work PC. Now I hafta bring my home external USB drive in to dump the image onto. I'm happy with beta 2, as its running well so far on my spare rig. Hopefully it will cleanly 'upgrade' from within Vista itself.

Yep!
Just concurring. The keys have been the same from one build before Beta2 for CTP folks. Since they made this public, the Beta2 key should be in the same library of keys they use.

Is it possible for us without Beta2 keys to install and play around with this build of Vista?

Anyone know if i can just install this over Vista Beta 2, or do i need to do a complete install from scratch?

26% done, 3 hours 45 minutes left. :(

Oh well.

The beta 2 was a POS so I threw the disk in the trash and deleted the key off my comp, luckly I had backed up the key on my IPOD just incase I needed it. Looks like I will :D. Hopefully performance in games doesnt' suck as much as the beta 2.

Man, I've been pulling from 10 to 50 KBPS for hours downloading it now :( my home connection is 60 times faster than this dorm connection.

Yes. You'll be limited to 14 days though. A CD-key is required for the activation (not needed for the installation). Without the activation, you'll have 14 days of testing.

Much thanks for the reply. I guess I'll play around with it for a bit then, maybe they'll email me a key somewhere down the line. :)

Works awesome. Now compat with Xpress 3200 Chipset!

It doesn't like Alcohol (older version, albeit) had to format cos it kept crashing even in safe mode

Not sure if I read you correct so... I understand that it has all options but with the beta it seemed to automatically choose which version to install based on your hardware. What I would specifically like to know is does this release let me choose which version to install?

Not sure why you keep posting this. A key is required for installation, unless it is a Business or Enterprise volume license SKU. Which it isn't.

Great, so you can install this.. but only use it for 14 days, after which you have to go through the painstaking reformat process again.
And this I had to find out by reading comments on anandtech, and not on the MS download page.

Great work MS.

Come on.. you cannot be that ignorant? You know from the start, as soon as beta builds of Vista were being released to the general public, you had to have an install key to install the operating system.

I downloaded and installed on my computer and i must say im impressed. This is the first build ive gotten teh chance to use and i was expecting much less performance than ive gotten. Everything goes smooth and nice. Does screwy things with ATI's CCC, so im in the process of uninstalling that. I cant get it online as im on campus and they wont let that os on the network. But overall im happy with what ive got.

Only way I could have known that was if I had been tirelessly browsing vista news from the beginning. I haven't. This is a public download, not only for hardcore geeks.. it should be stated on the download page what the terms are tbh.
