A few months back I got an iPhone and I used it constantly. Now my work has given my a blackberry and while it's no iPhone to be sure, I don't really use the iPhone as much since I can't take the phone inside the facility I work in.

So do you guys know if I can downgrade to a regular voice plan w/ AT&T and just buy a regular phone? I don't want to give up my # so I need something, but given my use the iPhone is hard to justify @ ~$100/month.

It all depends on whether they want to let you out of your contract. How long do you have left on the contract?

Long time...I think probably 20 months. If they want to play hardball I would just pay the termination fee and go back to verizon, but it would make my life easier to not have to go down that road.

I believe the contract is for the voice portion only, not the data. So you could call up AT&T say you no longer use the iPhone, remove the data plan and keep the voice plan for $40 (or whatever) per month. The mandatory data is only if you are using an iPhone, and even then I've heard about people dropping them off.

I'm not 10000% sure this is true, but I'm pretty confident. You should not need to pay ETF if you keep your voice line open for the duration of your contract.

Do you have your old phone or a different phone? Toss your sim in the different phone and call/go to a store and have the data package removed. We track data through imei numbers on the 3g iphone so if you take the data package off and continue to use it you will get notified of the data package being need to put back on within a week or so.

From what my buddy said, you can cancel the data plan through their online website. You can try it and see if they'll call you afterward.
