ok, i need to downgrade from vista rtm to xpsp2 coz my dad and mum don't get used to the layout and format ............ especially office 2007.......

I have made a ghost image of xpsp2 before moving to vista few days ago

But my friends told me that i will no longer be able to ghost my xp again because vista has changed something on the boot record

is it true ? what are the steps if i want to ghost back ?

thanks

Insert windows xp CD - boot from the CD, select the recovery console, log into the console shell, type FIXBOOT at the command prompt, hit enter - follow instructions, type FIXMBR - follow instructions, boot from Ghost recovery image, lay down your XP image, and you should be good to go.

Except Vista RTM is the retail build of Vista. Not beta.

If you don't know the difference between an MBR and a CBR you probably shouldn't be messing with the 'rents' computer.

I'm not sure about Ghost and Vista, but I used Acronis True Image Ver 8. I have gone between WinXP SP2 and various Beta and RTM builds of Vista and just booted from the Acronis Recovery CD and restored just the XP partition, reboot and its all good. I don't know why you couldn't do the same in Ghost.

Right now I dual boot Vista Ultimate 6.6000 and Suse Linux and use the GRUB boot loader in the MBR. So don't get all panic stricken and do something foolish. You can restore a good boot record using a Win98 floppy disk with fdisk on it. Boot from the floppy disk at the DOS " A:\>> " prompt type without the quotes " fdisk /mbr " and then press enter. This will write the code to the MBR

Good correction.

I got Vista RTM and its not a Torrent.

no, it is ISO form torrent. torrent is useless.
