Normally I wouldn't ask anything like this.(too MBareAssed I guess) But I've been out of work for about six months now. I do computer work in my community, its just that this doesnt pay all the bills. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tennesse Tech University in Industrial Technology. I have worked for 2.5 years as a Plant Engineer/Engineering Tech for a mobile home manufacturer(Oakwood Homes). Experienced in Microstation95. I could get a job at a local plant and I may do this before too long but I feel that I spent(and am still paying for) my education and why would I work doing something I could have done right out of high school. If anyone has any suggestions on places I could try. I have no family(wife or kids) and location doesnt really play a role I just want to do something before I crawl out of my skin living at home with my parents. Thanks
PS I have really wanted to get into IT, but I dont have any formal training. Although I have worked with a token ring AS400 system, I have set up 8 small networks(microsoft for businesses), I have built around 50 machines and upgraded many more.

If you want to try to leverage your MicroStation experience, check this site and perhaps you could contact some of the officers in the TN group and see if they have any leads. I've found most users group officers to be nice people.

Another possibility along the same lines is to check this newsletter site which runs free ads for people looking for CAD jobs.

Best of luck in your job hunt!

Might want to run it by Engineer! as he is in your state working as an Industrial Engineer.

Unless the IT leads are any better in your area, don't bother. They want a BS in CS and 3 years experience to change a floppy drive or answer the help desk phone in my area. :p

Best of luck. I need a job too. :(

Viz, that's not necessarily true. I work IT for an engineering company near Irvine, CA. We build power plants. And ya know what? They've got me doing engineering apps and I don't know anything about using Microstation(we run SE) or any of the other engineering apps.

I happen to know that my dept(which is in CA. :( ) would jump at the chance to pick up someone who knew what they were doing in the eng apps to tech for them. Remember, only have of IT is hardware. The other half is software, and the industry is hard pressed to find techs who know the engineering apps(because those people engineer for a living, they don't tech), much less techs who know computers. Apply for those jobs Sprocket, if you are willing to learn you'll get the job.

Where's my bed!?!?! I can't find it!?!?! Gotta pass out NOW!

WetSproket, You could always try: NC Machinery

Or, if the weather out west isn't your bag you could try here: Tractor & Equipment Co.

I've worked at Tractor & Equipment for 13 and 1/2 years now. We've grown to become the second largest Caterpillar dealer in the U.S. It's a very solid company. Good benifits, pay and opportunities for advancement. I can even say, "I work in a Cat house" and my mom doesn't get mad at me. :D

NC is owned by T&E, but they'd have more jobs available in your areas of expertise.

Good luck !

It's a bit extreme, but there is a big shortage of people in the IT industry here in the UK...

Would you consider coming over here ?????

UK. Hey I like the Spice Girls. Why not. Are there any headhunters you could recommend, or Agencies for placement.
