Dow touches 11,000
GM upgrade propels blue-chip indicator to highest level since 2001; broader market inches upward.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) - The Dow industrials crossed the 11,000 mark for the first time in more than 4-1/2 years Monday, aided by an upgrade of blue-chip General Motors.

The Dow (up 37.16 to 10,996.47, Charts) rose 0.3 percent, hitting the 11,000 mark for the first time since June 13, 2001, reaching as high as 11,012.40 before retreating slightly. The Dow's all-time high stands at 11,722.98 reached on Jan. 14, 2000.

tax breaks do work.. more money in the hands of consumers means more things bought = better economy
i cant wait till the day the Dow reaches 12000 in two years ;)
now if crude oil would only return to pre-9/11 barrel prices

Like I said in the P&N 11,000 thread, this information is false. It crossed 11,000 briefly in 2005. It never CLOSED above 11,000 in 2005 though.
