DoW 2 or CoH gold?

Hey guys I recently tried out the DoW 2 beta and I did enjoy it but I am curious if CoH gold would be more fun?

I did play the original CoH and had fun with it but my comp wasn't very fast at the time. I'm not worried about running it at this point but I am curious about opinions here. I do understand that they are indeed totally different games in the way they play.

BTW is match making in CoH better now?

COH gold is probably a better value, and it is a great game. But I doubt matchmaking is any better. I stopped playing online for that reason among several.

Agreed. CoH gold is more likely a better value. But they're both amazing games. They're almost sister games in how they play out.

DoW2 is supposed to have even more destructible environments though. As well as maps in the SP campaign that can be played co-op online.

I'd say it comes down to personal preference. Which do you enjoy more? WWII or the W40K universe?

Dawn of War 2 and Company of Heroes play rather differently. COH is more of a traditional RTS, while DOW2 trims out a lot of the RTS fat making it almost a squad based tactical game.
DOW2 is about to have a big influx of players and will probably be better for single player. COH Gold has 3 single player campaigns, and imo, a better multiplayer, but the player base has already thinned up a little.

CoH gold id say. I thought the original CoH multiplayer was crap, US vs wehrmacht every single freaking game, it got boring very fast. The opposing fronts expansion really made the game fun, for me anyways.

CoH:Gold is a fantastic game and a bargain at the price its at now.

DoW2 from my Beta experience feels similar but plays differently. Bound to be a massive hit but as it has just released and is probably full price.

Best bang for buck right now would be CoH.

Company of Heroes is the best RTS out there right now, in my opinion.

Playing the Beta for Dawn of War II was a lot of fun, and I will be buying the game. However, it is an inferior game in my opinion. Less tactical decisions, which is what I enjoy most about RTS's.

Hello.

I have been watching the comments and reviews on DOW2. It seems like a fun game. Metacritic gave it good reviews and the players seemed to give the game well thought out comments.

I plan on buying Starcraft2 and still play BFME2. I did not buy the new C&C game. I read that the games were fast paced 45minutes to one hour matches. I like the pace of BFME2 they have short games and games that can go over 2 hours. Can anyone who has played this game let me know if the game is geared towards fast paced matches or whether it builds up first then plays out over a couple hours? Also, I am more of a social gamer and like the larger matches. How many people play in the matches 2-8 or larger or generally is 4 is optimum?

Can anyone help me to choose whether to play this game or not?

Thanks.

gamerguy2:

i've really enjoyed the SP campaign, it's stylish, exciting, just a lot of fun in many ways. Highly recommended.

Beginning to MP, I prefer 1v1 matches and the automatch feature seems to work well, i don't usually wait more than a few minutes. There's also custom games, populations seems decent. Looks like 3v3 is the max but i've only looked at the custom game list a few times.

The longest a 1v1 (head to head) match has lasted for me has been 22 minutes. The game is naturally fast paced, as in DoW1.

Sounds like I need to try CoH. I don't think i'll play it online though, must be too many experts by now, and my ego can't handle losing 90% of the games I play :)

Dawn of War 2 multiplayer seems to be fun in-game but lag/quitting seems to be a problem for some and automatching seems to be a negative for some, waiting too long for a match or getting a poor one.

Relic have been on the ball, releasing I believe 4 or 5 patches already to resolve issues and improve systems, stability and matching up. The singleplayer experience is one to love, RPG, RTS and tactics all rolled into one.

Company of Heroes is a MUCH better game.

I want to like DoW 2, and the campaign is pretty fun, whether single player or co-op 2player...
But multiplayer is slow and boring. Its like a dumbed down CoH, with a warhammer 40k coat of paint.
The maps are too small, and there are only 7 total MP maps.
Maybe it will improve with expansion packs, but for now its a big disappointment.
Also, requiring both steam AND windows Live is complete bullshit (i dont want EITHER of them anywhere near my computer, let alone both).

CoH and DoW 1 are both excellent. DoW 2 is only worth it if you're a warhammer 40k fan, and even then i'd stick with DoW1.

CoH is a much better game. The only big issue with it is that it is completely unbalanced. An allied player simply has NO CHANCE against a GOOD German player. There is just no way to win. Anyone who says it's not true is in denial. The devs clearly put a lot more time and effort into designing and implementing the german factions as opposed to allies. It's just simply stupid... I mean why should Wehrmacht have 17 units at their disposal, when Americans only have 12?! Seriously WTF? Why is it that the British infantry have absolutely no anti tank weapons aside from the shitty PIAT, when the german infantry has AT grenades, AT panzerfausts, panzershrecks, etc? Why should the germans have all sorts of incendiary munitions such as anti infantry flame grenades, flame mortar, stuka, and nebel, when the allies have absolutely no incendiary weapons??!!

I understand that the allied weapons were inferior to the german counterparts during WWII, but where the allies lacked in quality, they more than made up for in quantity. NOT the case here. You cant make 3 shermans for the price of 1 panther, even though it was probably the case in RL. Also it's not like the allies didn't have more artillery options then shown in this game.

I did not much care for DoW2's single player campaign. It starts off well enough, but slowly slides downhill till about midgame - by which point it is grindy and spammy, and has all the tactical depth of a light gun game.

The info is much appreciated.

I might wait on it till they release more maps and then play the singleplayer as well.

The only aspect (and i don't want to say i don't like it exactly but yeah) about the SP is how damn tough the bosses can be. The ork warboss took probably 15-30 minutes of work to kill, constant falling back etc. Or maybe it's the comparatively small amounts of damage your units inflict. The force commander I'm using does 1300 melee damage with 700hp and 103 armor and bosses squish him with just a little more effort than they do a regular space marine. I'm on Sergeant.
Still cool though :)

Im playing DOW II single player campain on primarch right now I finished it on captain . Its far more like 40k the books then 40k the tabletop game you hero's dont die , you only have 4 units with your force commander . And for me once you get your dreadnought its so full of win you dont play the scout anymore and hardly play the assualt marine sqd

COH otoh is more of a traditional rts its great in mp and you can build the units you want to have

Both are good games but I think with the 3 single player campains the many different maps for skimish games COH just has more to do

Malz how tough is Primarch really? I assume you've fought several bosses already...they were tough enough on Sergeant...
When you say the dreadnought rocks does it last longer/do more damage or something? It does a lot of damage sure but bosses maul the crap out of it.

I'm getting whaled on in Captain difficulty but still enjoying it. In my previous play-through on Sergeant difficulty I only hit level 20 with my FC and the loot drops were pretty disappointing, so I am giving it another go.

lvl 20's the max isn't it??

Yeah drops aren't worth much most of the time now except for the novelty "hm, +10% movement speed huh?", it's the mission rewards that are for me at least.

Yeah 20 is max, I was just saying only one squad member hit max level, the rest were lagging behind. Felt kind of lame, so I am trying to hit higher levels this time.
