you don't need a midwife IMO.

we have had two kids. 1st one was a difficult labor. A midwife would of been useless.

2nd one was an incredibly EASY labor. A midwife would of been useless.

Man, that's old school. I know somebody who gave birth at home in the bath tub by a midwife. Saves a lot of money.

f*ck it. cancel the contract, dont pay her by claiming she distressed you by telling you and your wife she was going to tahoe. let her take you to small claims court.

OK, he hired a doula not a midwife.

My wife was terrified of having a c-section. I think it is very important that you discuss it with your doctor and find out what his rate of sections are. We talked about it with ours and he knew that she didn't want to have one unless absolutely necessary. He was very understanding and worked with us. Ultimately it is up to him but if your doctor is not nice and helpful and tells you he will do what he wants regardless then you need to find a different doctor. I don't think enough people take the time to talk to their doctor and make sure they know that what you want is important. They may have gone to school for a long time but it is still your body and you should have a right to say what you would like.

Fire her now, recover all or part of the $300 in small claims court, later. Concentrate on getting someone who will be there and be of some use, now.

BTW it's really a pretty good idea hiring someone like that. At the hospital, no matter how good the nursing staff is, you might not get a winner and certainly they will be stretched too thin to be of much help.
