Doubt in chooses of parts (brazil)

Olá,

My name is Renato, is of Brazil and is for changing the
configuration of my computer.
Here in Brazil the things are a little
more difficult, I am with about $670, and already I have the following
one to computer: Pentium IV 2,6 Northwood Fsb 533 512
Asus P4S533-MX
512 Mb Geil Value DDR 400
HD Seagate Barracuda 80 gb 7200rpm ATA
Power supply Seventeam 420 watts ATX 2,0
and some Accessories....

I am for changing motherboard, the processor, and choosing a
VGA. I am in doubts between:
Atlhon 64bits 3000+ Venice
MB's:
Asus AN8-SLI
MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum or

Semprom 3100+ (revision E6)
-indefinite Motherboard.

On the VGA, I thought about the Msi 6600 TD128.

Good it is this what the money gives to catch. The Semprom almost
leaves 40% more in account that the Venice.
Which to buy, athlon or semprom?
*My English is not very good XD

Thanks;

Renato.

buy the 3000+, the MSI K8N platinum and a 6600 and you should be well within your budget considering you have $670 to spend (that is assuming hardware prices are comparable to those in the States/Europe)

Debtor for the opinion. Somebody more is qualified to think? Here in
Brazil, some friends technician recommend the set to me of semprom,
others of a64 venice, mine doubt are same between which set.

Thanks

What are you going to use the computer for? if you want to play games w/ the computer then you should get the Venice. If you are going to only surf the internet and check email, etc then you should purchase the Sempron or just keep the computer you have right now and upgrade your RAM and video card.

If it were me, I would keep the P4 and add another (bigger) HDD, buy a 6600GT (cheap) and another stick of 512.

The difference at the same clock speed is the L2 cache. The venice offers better performance at the same clock speed. Most applications will benefit from the increased cache size on the venice, though if you aren't opposed to overclocking the sempron you can reach equivilant speeds. The overclocking route will also, as you can see save quite a bit of money, at least on the processor side.

The thing to be careful with on the OC route, would be to get a board that will be capable of reach the levels to get the same performance. If you do choose to go this route, follow up reviews on sempron overclocking, and see if you can get a similiar board for your setup at a decent price.

If possible, I would also head on over to the manufacturers web forums, if they have them, and see if the board you are looking at has any known problems.
