Doubt anyone cares, but since last night Netflix seems to have improved streaming.

Image quality at least.
Though I am sure anyone who liked it before will probably not be any more in love with it.
And I've no doubt all the haters will continue to hate.

Call me when every movie on the streaming list isn't B-rate or worse.

I need a legit alternative to Hulu that isn't full of terrible movies I can't bring myself to actually watch.

Some of the tv shows are worthwhile.

But most of the movie selection is crap.

Sure, there are a few good Starz series (just finished S1 prison break before getting 2 episodes into S2 and realizing it was horribly unbelievable garbage), but the movies are the primary reason I would use Netflix over Hulu.

Seriously? You don't have the ability to space out for 30 seconds for something that is free? Of course there aren't commercials on Netflix, you're paying for it. Give me a pay $9.95 a month for no commercials option on Hulu and I'd take it in a heartbeat, but only to SUPPORT Hulu, not because the commercials ever actually bothered me.

I'm looking through the movies on Hulu and while I agree with you that the Netflix movie selection is pretty weak...Hulu doesn't seem any better.

IMO, netflix video on demand is mainly for streaming TV shows. You do the video rental to watch real movies.

saying there are no good movies on netflix VOD only means 1 of 2 things:

-you have horrible taste in movies
-you are too lazy to search past the 10 they advertise on the main page

this.

tons of great movies avilaable. I think the majority here, though, are browsing amongst the sci-fi/fantasy and action categories. Those selections do, indeed, suck balls.

Foreign, docs, Indy, tons of great selections. and as others said, I get a lot out of the TV offerings.

But video didn't improve for me yesterday. GF watched a flick that had decent HD-like resolution, but the fuckers obviously DROPPED FRAMES to achieve it. In fact, I was watching this and thinking that Netflix may have opted to go this route to improve streaming speeds. Up the resolution capability, but drop frames and make video look like cheap animation.

wtf.

thats my issue. what little they do stream is B-rate. While i do enjoy "bad" horror movies anything else should be good

yeah, so again, you're looking in the category that only has shitty movies.

try looking for good movies? I find tons of excellent stuff on Netflix streaming.

seriously, maybe 2% of horror movies are actually good anyway. the rest is just some excuse for cheap thrilless thrills or slashing up a coed's body cavity. I think what Netflix streaming is helping you to realize, is that the vast majority of that genre really is crap. there is no "should be good" in certain categories. ;)

Huh. I'm curious what you define as "Good". So, I just pulled up Netflix and did a test run. Here is what I did:

Watch Instantly > Action & Adventure > Show All > Sortable List > Sort by Rating. This gives us a test group of the top 20 action movies. Lets take a look at them.

Desperado - 1995 R
Average rating: 3.878

Terminator 2: Judgment Day - 1991 R
Average rating: 3.985

Heat - 1995R
Average rating: 4.054

From Dusk Till Dawn - 1996 R
Average rating: 3.618

Tears of the Sun - 2003 R
Average rating: 3.652

Rising Sun - 1993 R
Average rating: 3.428

Rush Hour 2 - 2001 PG-13
Average rating: 3.451

The Taking of Pelham 123 - 2009 R
Average rating: 3.629

The Devil's Own - 1997 R
Average rating: 3.398

The Kill Point - 2007 NR
Average rating: 3.734

Fifteen Minutes - 2001 R
Average rating: 3.229

The Ghost and the Darkness - 1996 R
Average rating: 3.66

Point of No Return - 1993 R
Average rating: 3.522

Bullitt - 1968 PG
Average rating: 3.807

Drop Zone - 1994 R
Average rating: 3.303

In the Line of Fire - 1993 R
Average rating: 3.794

Sniper - 1993 R
Average rating: 3.479

Control - 2004 R
Average rating: 3.333

Echelon Conspiracy - 2009 PG-13
Average rating: 3.278

Dirty Harry - 1971 R
Average rating: 3.831

Yeeeaaaahh.. look at the dates even. Lets be realistic here. The ONLY thing worth watching on the TOP 20 action is friggen T2. I mean, seriously.. Echelon Conspiracy? I could barely make it past the first 5 minutes of that abomination without laughing at how I never thought I would see anything more inaccurately portray network security than Firewall. Hell, the only reason most of these movies are even here is because nobody would Netflix the physical DVD anyway, most are 20 years old.

I don't see anything that legitimizes your argument. Please feel free to enlighten me.

Hulu's 20 most popular action movies currently:

Looks pretty much equally bad...

Agreed. Not to mention the large selection of kids shows and also documentaries. I'll never exhaust all their media..Streaming is just a added bonus to getting movies in the mail.

Sorry, that took me 3 minutes of just typing up some of my recently watched list. As far as defining "good," I tried to pick a wide variety of genres for that list, and there are a good number of award winners as well. If you can't find a bunch of good movies in there, then you need to re-evaluate your taste. I could find MANY MANY MANY more classics, indie, foreign, and docu's, but you get the idea. To be honest, though, if I could have a three-way with my live-in women any time I wanted .. I probably wouldn't spend time browsing Netflix's streaming list either.

I watched Convoy Sunday afternoon, and the picture sucked, though that's to be expected from a 30 year old movie.

As far as the content, that is mostly driven by the movie studios, not Netflix, so if a movie isn't available on Netflix, it most likely isn't on Hulu either.
