It claims it can prevent hangovers.

"The primary cause of a hangover is congeners. ---- Our natural ingredients prevent hangover by attracting and absorbing congeners using activated calcium carbonate and charcoal. You can completely counteract the negative effects of alcohol abuse.

Chaser does not prevent intoxication or absorb alcohol. We recommend that you drink in moderation and drink responsibly. Two caplets last for three hours of drinking, or for up to six drinks. If you drink over a longer period, or more than six drinks, take two more caplets.

i thought the primary reason for hangovers was dehydration...i've noticed if i wake up a few times during the night and drink a few glasses of water the hangover is not bad, or nonexistant the next day...

of if you eat before bed. If you do that and drink water while you drink or at the end of the night...your hangover won't be nearly as bad.

I don't think it is always dehydration, although I believe that makes it a lot worse. I can have like a glass and a half of red wine and get a headache in the morning. Drinking as much water as I can fit into my stomach after a long night of drinking helps but doesn't always do the job. I might buy some and try it tonight. I'll report back if I do.

Chaser I've tried several times and it's total bs. The best thing to do is drink lots of water in between drinks. If thats not possible drink alot afterwards and eat something like bread. The next morning you'll be hydrated or at least less dehydrated. Drink more water the next morning and after going doing the "dooty" a few times you'll be all good.

What actualy "helps" is something called FARB. It does not cure but it helps!!

Cheap and effective:

4 aspirin and about a quart of water before bed. Problem is remembering to do that when you're shizit-faced. :D

Aside from dehydration - another casue of a hangover is the constriction of blood vessel in the brain (side affect of alcohol), and the aspirin relieves that.

WTF kind of Ninja are you? You should just bust a wailing guitar solo and Seppuku the hangover out of your head with your sword.

Chem prof told us that the foamy mist when you pop the top of a beer bottle contains some formaldehyde which can lead to some hangover properties. He said to always blow it out. I go with the drink water group. The only time I was not too drunk to remember, or stomach the water, I was fine the next day.

visgf here:

There is no formaldehyde in a beer. Formaldehyde is a breakdown product of methanol, an extremely toxic substance to the body. The alcohol in beer and other popular beverages is ethanol, which is broken down by the liver to acetaldehyde (similar to formaldehyde but less toxic) and then to acetic acid. Acetaldehyde is the substance that causes you to have a hangover. Acetaldehyde dehydrogenase is the enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde and it works much slower than alcohol dehydrogenase, so you break down the alcohol quickly but then have a bunch of acetaldehyde left waiting for its turn at the enzyme. All this equals a hangover. Water is helpful since it's needed for the final breakdown.
