I'm not sure if you guys have seen this or not but the Locki config file is for Quake 3 and it has tweaked the game as high as is possible. It looks ugly as hell but it pretty much doubled my framerates when I tried it.

I don't actually use the file but some of you (ie RoboTECH) have mentioned that you like high resolution rather than eye candy.

It would be interesting to see what kind of scores you get before and after you use this file. For example my fps went from 55 fps to ~90 fps using this file on my Celeron 500 + Voodoo 3, at the same 640 x 480 resolution.

Here is the file.

Unzip it, rename it to "q3config" and drop it into the "baseq3" folder of Quake 3.

Have fun!

<< It looks ugly as hell >>

Mmmm, I think that pretty much sums it up. I prefer the game to actually look as nice as possible, and I don't mind settling for around 50FPS to get that. I'm sure this file might be helpful to a lot of fraggers out there though, so thanks for the link ;)

I think most hardcore players will use this and will also uncomment the "r_picmap 5" command that is in the file. This makes it even uglier but even faster. Even Locki doesn't have it set at 5.

yo the heck my setup it is all messed up now..

Of course it is. It's a totally new config file. You can either:

-copy and paste your stuff into Locki or
-copy and past Locki's settings into yours (recommended).

Remember to back up your old config before you start though!

Bleach! 166 FPS of extreme ugliness :disgust:. I could see serious players using it though. They don't care how it looks. Just maximum framerate. It is also easier to see your targets with a config like this one. Man the guy has weird key bindings. The darn mouselook was reversed. Spent too much time looking at the floor.

mikelou, just delete the darn thing.

if you don't like it, delete it, and Q3 will recreate the q3config.cfg file itself

I wouldn't name the locki config "q3config.cfg" tho, I'd call it something like "fast.cfg", drop it in baseq3, and then from the console type "/exec fast.cfg"

1600x1200 was 90 fps with that weird config

1280 was 160 fps

1024 was 213 fps

heh....

weird thing is, I get 125 fps @ 1024x768x22 (105 w/32-bit) using default SHQ settings (default everything with maxed geometry and r_picmip 0) with blood, gibs, brass and marks turned off

go figure

I'll stick with my config, heh.....much perdier....

Hehe, I got like 129 in 1024x768, and like 190 in 640x480, but it looked like a$$. My GeForce SDR can't handle 1600x1200, but the game looked pretty decent at that res...I was at like 48 FPS. If I had a GTS or, even better, and Ultra, I'd use that .cfg w/out simple items = ) Keyword being "if"...

you konw i MADE a similar config, on a celeron 300a@333 --didn't quite make it-- and a banshee with 64 megs ram. well on the longest yard which i believe is a pretty nast level if you're and one end looking at the other in a multiplayer game. lots of overdraw and a fair bit of textures. well anywho i pulled off 50fps min.

If you open the file before Quake 3 touches it, you will see it divided into neat subsections and commented throughly. You can then edit your keyboard settings quite easily before you start to use it. Once Quake 3 loads it up it changes the ordering of the items.

230 fps

There have been reports of people hitting 300 fps with processors faster than 1 GHz, sound off and a GF2 Ultra.

yeah, I believe it

I made a "fast/ugly" config when I first got my gts, just to see what would happen, and I was breaking 300 fps with it when I was running my CPU @ 1012

original GLQuake, @ 640x480 with defaults set up, i get just over 600 fps on the GTS and low 500's for the 5500

<G>

I wonder if that is fast enough?

BrotherMan, the "good ole' days" were when a Diamond Monster Voodoo1 was breaking 45 fps in Q1 on a P2-233!

actually, my good ole' days was when I had a Diamond Monster V1 that allowed me to get to 30 fps (I had a POS Cyrix system...d'oh!)

Tip: Rename the cfg and make it read only, it will keep the original layout :)
