What are you saying here, that Americans should dictate what other countries should do? I suppose you'd be fine with other countries dictating what we should do as well?

So your position is that we should stay out of the Palestinian/Israel thingy?

Why the double standard? Is the left afraid to demand equal rights from Saudi Arabia and other nations that are unfriendly to gays?

This is nothing new. Liberals are all about women's rights and gay rights, until they're not. E.g., Israel which recognizes both is one of their targets of hate while Arabs, including Palestinians, who recognize neither, is one of their favorites.

When is the left going to end the double standard and demand equal rights from nations just as they demand equal rights from states?

Republicans only exist in other states, not other nations, so it won't happen. As the above illustrates, it's not actually about equal rights; it's about party politics. The US govt passed and signed such a bill under Clinton. Any complaints from the Left? Nope. Same for about 2 dozen states. In fact, Obama voted for such a bill while in the Indiana Senate.

However, Pence is a Republican.

Is this texashiker guy for real? Saudi Arabia is 11,000 miles away and we have no authority to tell them how to treat gay people.

It is also a different bill, maybe give reading a try someday. I mean, if you took a minute to look at the differences, you might even gain an understanding.

fern has definitely gone off the deep end over the last couple years ;)

Seems to be happening to many on the right. Those that used to respected as the reasonable, rational principled conservatives seem be be floating steadily towards the looney end of the pool.

Disappointing.

That echo chamber they live in needs to dial it back.

I think I have a reasonable grasp on the differences. Why don't you summarize for us the ones you are referring to, pls? Otherwise I cannot comment on whatever differences you have in mind.

TIA

Lets boycott Indiana but lets keep doing business with Saudi Arabia.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-govern...ile-doing-business-with-gay-hating-countries/

Why the double standard? Is the left afraid to demand equal rights from Saudi Arabia and other nations that are unfriendly to gays?

When are we going to see boycotts of Exxon?

http://www.exxonmobil.com.sa/ksa-English/PA/default.aspx

When is the left going to boycott products made in Malaysia?

When is the left going to end the double standard and demand equal rights from nations just as they demand equal rights from states?

Is this the current sad state of Republican "logic?"
They are comparing Exxon Mobil (a company) with Indiana, a state.
As far as Apple comparison, last I checked, SalesForce is still selling in Indiana, just like Apple is selling in Saudi Arabia. They are boycotting it for HQ expansion. Last I checked Apple doesn't have HQ in Riyadh either. So no double standard found, unless you compare apples and oranges.

As a gay man I totally agree, and I'm a big hypocrite because I buy gas.
You should only buy gas from Murphy. Murphy Oil buys from gay-friendly places like North Dakota, Arkansas . . . wait . . .

Gay folks should all major in physics, chemistry and engineering so they can work on alternative energy, since apparently oil makes people hate gays.

You strike me as someone who doesn't read a lot.
Whoa, deja vu.

Wait, did I already say that?

EDIT: I actually agree with the OP that there is a double standard on gay tolerance/intolerance, although apparently I do not find it to be a fuck-worthy cause. Wherever one finds humans, one finds double standards.

Yeah, we're the unreasonable ones.

We oppose, for example:

1. The President exceeding his Constitutional authority in enacting/changing legislation. It's not like Obama himself said many times publicly that he lacked the Constitutional authority to do so with the immigration issue.

2. The inexplicable shift in policy against our allies, whether it be Mubarak or Israel.

3. The (attempted) creation of a new paradigm to circumvent the Constitution and cut the Legislative branch out of the treaty process by using the UN. Calling it something other than a "treaty" doesn't even supply the 'fig leaf' hoped for. As the courts have long upheld, a thing it what it is based upon its substance, not something as superficial as the name its given.

Yeah, we're the nutty ones.

TBH if it was up to me I'd say yes but what does that have to do with anything? Does the US have unilateral power over those two countries?

Did you post this to the right thread?

What does Obama/UN treaties/ immigration have to do with Indiana and Mike Pense?

You don't believe any of this bullshit, do you?

The left is not about promoting real change, it is about promoting an agenda of hate, an agenda of reverse discrimination.

How many lefties are boycotting exxon, apple, microsoft,,,, or other companies who do business with nations that prohibit homosexuality?

How many companies doing business with Iran are on the lefts boycott list?

http://graphics.wsj.com/iran-sanctions/

Bausch & Lomb Inc.
Microsoft Mobile OY
New York University
University of California San Diego
University of Wisconsin

Among many, many more.

Isn't the University of California San Diego a liberal college? But yet that university can do business with a nation that hangs gays?

You know, sometimes I find it painful to know we actually have people like this living in the US and dragging this country down. But at other times I'm thankful that right-wingers are genuinely this dumb.

Are you saying that these companies aren't currently doing business in Indiana? That would be a valid comparison.

How do you know the left isn't protesting?

Finally, why should it matter what happens in other countries? Last I checked, citizens of the US only have a responsibility (and control over) stuff happening in the US.

This is way better than scum like you who hates a large section of the population in the US.

All I ask for is true equality.

If the left gets pissed off about various anti-gay laws, why aren't those same standards being applied to nations that could and do execute gays.

http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/george-takei-boycott-indiana

“I have called for a boycott of Indiana … not only to send a clear message to Indiana, but also to help stop the further erosion of our core civil values in other parts of this country.”

When is there going to be a boycott on Exxon for dealing with a nation that could legally execute gays?

Welp, you caught us.

Us lefties are only boycotting Indiana because we hate this country and everything it stands for. So, so much. It's why we support KingObummer™ and go to sleep wishing for 10,000,000 Benghazis.

On the other hand, we love Saudi Arabia and everything it stands for, because, uh, something.

This is clearly manifested in our desire to boycott a state a few hundred miles away (or one we already live in), while we ignore boycotting a country that is only tens of thousands of miles away and separated by a language and religious barrier.

Because us lefties hate Amurica. So, so much.

You caught us. Great detective work!
