Thanks.

I'm just really reluctant on spending 90 bucks on a power supply. That's a lot of money.

Think of it lkie an insurance policy. Cheapo PSUs often have very weak rails that tend to fluctuate, which could cause instability. Also, They can "blow up" and destroy parts of your system. You definately want to spend over $60 on a PSU...

Yo don't need to spend that much - you just need a good brand. My 25 dollar enermax psu has 22 amps on the 12v, which is a lot for a 300 watt psu. It's high quality, and cheap.

300W is definately pushing it for his system, especially if he OCs any... Tjhere are a few cheaper decent PSUs on the market (the Xcilio is one), so I guess those are an option too. You just want to make sure there is enough power and current for all the components. I would say he would want at least 400W and 25A 12V (or 2 at 15A).

Actually its extremely hard to draw over 350w with a non-exotic system. The reason people think you need some 500w power supply is probably because many people buy those crappy bad name 400w power supplies which have huge ripple on their 12v rail and when they screw up they think they need more amps or more watts.
When in reality what was causing the problems were the lack of clean power on the 12v rail. It doesnt matter if you have a 1200watt power supply w 50amps on the 12v if it doesnt supply clean consistent power it'll screw things up.

All the big name brands like Fortron, Enermax, Anetc, etc will have no problems on a regular non-exotic system even at lower wattages like 350w.
