I got a PC for someone in my family for Xmas... I am going to try to call Dell and see if they will double my memory or I will return the system... Anyone try this?

This is a nice deal, but be careful. I tried stacking this with the free CDRW they are also offering now and I couldn't.

If you compare value, the CDRW is worth probably $149 ($199 at Dell.com prices). 128 megs of Ram is worth about $99.

Just so you all know there are 2 options. Double your memory or free CDRW

Actually, there's an option to upgrade to 512 megs for around $130 for regular SDRAM.

Hell yes they will do anything to make you keep that PC. Dell, went as far as to refund my shipping, give me an additional $300 off, and give me the free printer AND the free CDRW that they were offering at the time.

Makes sense. If you return the computer they cannot sell it again as new. And their refurbished units are a lot cheaper, so they probably figured they'll come out even when they give you back $300 (and have a happy customer).

i believe, including promotions and all, that DELL's refurb are MORE expensive than new.

Hmm.. too bad this doesn't apply for their PowerEdge servers. I just put in an order for one with 1Gb of memory.. 2Gb would've been nice.
