Double layered dvd writers?

When do you think double layered(can store 9.something gigabytes data on one double layered dvd recordable instead of just 4.7) dvd writers are going to be released?

Is it worth it to wait for them, or should one just go buy a dvd writer now, because they are 'unreachable'?

i was meaning something like the dvd's used in movie dvd-roms. i have found plenty with 7+gb.

i did'nt mean the ones you eject, and turn over.

dvd authoring drives can be had now for a little over a 1000

when and if they are going to lower their price will prod be after they get the dvd-5 drives to their top speeds

maybe in a couple of years

i would and did get a dvd burner

Yes, but DVD Authoring drives can't burn dual-layers either. They're using the same capacity disks as DVD General drives, only greater quality.

They don't exist as you are picturing them. Dual-layer DVDs are not burned, they are burned separately and glued together. So, unless there is some change in technology, we will never have "dual-layer" burners as the discs exist today. Besides, once the blue-ray and others like it catch on, we will have 25+GB on one disc anyway.

The only problem though is they won't be compatible with current DVD players/drives

Serp, correct. You'll need a blu-ray drive to read blu-ray disc, although I would imagine they'd at least try to be backwards compatible on reading older discs.
