Double installation of Windows updates???

HI
Not sure how it happened but my laptop is now running IE 10. (I let grandkids, and older children use it in the past) I noticed that IE was running sluggish and slow. When I checked the version it showed IE 10. I know I had IE 11 installed and running for a while. I tried to install IE 11 and it fails. I went into the MS site and downloaded a fresh copy of IE 11 and that installation failed. I tried a few other things suggested my MS and they failed.
The next step is to look to see if several updates were installed. I show updates installed since 2011 and finding certain ones is,,, well,,, impossible. I just had eye surgery and my eyesight is still bad. I did find a MS knowledge base document saying to install certain ones. Rather then look thru hundreds of updates,,,,
can I just install the suggested ones??? Will that cause a problem???
From a few articles I have read,,, all basically said that if re-installing a update the newer one will just overwrite the old one without causing a problem.
Your thoughts???
