Double EXP weekend and other bonuses for Gears of War 2 this weekend

I guess you could say that Epic wants this weekend to go off with a bang...ehh...bad joke. Anyways, they've announced the following.

It's time to celebrate Independence Day! And we're going to do that with some extra experience and an onslaught of our version of fireworks, the beloved Ticker. Oh and it's looking like TU4 is going to drop just in time for this event!

Starting Friday morning you'll be receiving double XP as well as a 500 XP bonus awarded to the winning team. And to give a little extra bang to Horde we're bringing the Ticker squad (a group of Tickers that all spawn at the same time) into full effect. They'll be showing up a lot more throughout all the waves of Horde and they've completely infested every 10th wave with nothing but Tickers. So if you've been having trouble with Bloodmounts, this weekend is a good time to get your Horde on and get further than ever before. And don't forget that TU4 will give you experience for every wave you beat.

The event will end on Monday morning on July 6th.

So get out there and pop some Tickers for freedom!

Rod.

Excellent. They have definitely given me a reason to go back to horde again. I will miss the blood mounts though, they clog up against the shield wall, providing a target rich environment. Active boom shots rack up the points fast like that.

I would have preferred Kantus get the boot. When we play on hardcore, it is the ink that wreaks havoc on the squad. Everyone will be in position, then a Kantus tosses a ink, with perfect accuracy. If it doesn't down you before getting clear, a grinder or something nails you while trying to relocate. They are more manageable on maps that have the bow spawn in a good location, but still a PITA.

This is the best patch so far. I only have a 15/2 connection hard wired, but I was host for every match I played, and no one complained about lag.

Leveling with the double EP was fast, and the ticker waves let you wrack up kills. Because of the incentives, few quit matches, and many more people had a mic and wanted to work as a team, than is typical. Match making for Horde was definitely improved, as it finally hooked me up with other people that had the snow blind maps. It was chuckle worthy to see how fast grind yard would get chosen. The Flash back maps showed up as a choice more frequently too.

Good Times.
