Double dipping...

Let's say you have an American Express card and you have 25000 points you can redeem. If you get an award ticket from them, can you double dip on your airline mileage account? Just wondering if anyone has done it before...

doubt it. but ive never done it.

i've gotten a "buddy pass" (significantly reduced rate, standby ticket) from my friend that works for delta. those tickets are not eligible for skymiles.

i think he earns points for his AMEX and he can buy stuff with that (airline tix included). he also accrues miles as a traveler on airlines. i do the same.

Well, it's not AMEX it's actually MBNA (Bank of America now). From what I understand they buy the ticket for you... I don't see why you can't double dip, like if I fly on United with the award ticket and get Mileage Plus miles, unless those tickets are bought with super cheap fares that aren't eligible. I'm just wondering if anyone has done it.
