hi everyone :) I know we have some experienced, knowledgable folks here ... would really appreciate your advise ...

if I am ordering the right stuff...

going to South America - will vlog ... I have been do in SA for 5 months before and traveled before for few years non stop - now it's time to document and share ...

I want to document many things ... vlog... take interviews...

for now I have been relying on my two GoPro's and Note 3 due to size convenience

but I am thinking of quality and going for a DSLR (I did have Nikon D90 years ago)

for now I realize that:

* I need the fully articulating screen - the flip out screen - so I can see my self when filming :)
* auto face focus when filming
* 10-18mm lens = wide
* not sure would probably be nice if it had a speaker or headphones jack for backplaying - reviewing videos
* hmmmm I am sure I might want other things - but can't think of them
* (time lapse I will solve with a $20 intervalometer from eBay)
* I wish I could record in 1920p or 2160p or 2K or 4K for the future / sell stock footage (but such cams are just too big/expensive - maybe I could attach a (hack on) a GoPro 4 black = 4K@30fps and would double as a video & sound backup )
* I wish I could get a better mic ... but again it will be used in South America on some streets - not in NYC ... hmmm maybe I should get a Bluetooth mic?

please advise what setup should I get?

Not sure what your budget is, but for video, you might consider the Panasonic GH4.

A dedicated mic is key - I'd rather have mediocre video + good audio than the other way.

If you decide to stick with the Canon, be aware that the 10-18 is going to be fairly wide.
18*1.6 = 28mm = close to the focal length of your Note on the far end.

I agree about sound

Panasonic GH4 - looking at youtube reviews ...

I guess I should also have 18-55mm lens?

I'm not sure what focal length you want ... 18-55 is a typical range... Just remember you'll be *starting* at 18mm (which is ~ the focal length of your phone) to 55mm which is a little bit of zoom.

It looks like Canon has their STM lenses = silent focusing for video.
If you get a non-STM lense, the sound of the lens focusing can be loud during recording.
However, if you have offcamera mic, maybe that's less of an issue.
