Dothan = wrong????

Look, IMO, while Dothan is an excellent chip, it can't compete with the A64 on a clock-for-clock basis. I ran some CPU intensive benchies on both my laptop (which has a 2.0GHz P-M 760, 533FSB) against my main computer at stock (an A64 Winnie 3200+), and the A64 was between 3-10% faster. That isn't much, mind you, but it is a difference.

when you overclock it on a desktop, its on a completely different platform, with better perfromance.

Yes, having any dedicated GPU in a notebook will shorten battery life. Processor aside, the platform that uses probably the least amount of power is the mobile 915g (IIRC) because integrated graphics doesn't have as much a power draw hit, plus DDR2 runs at lower voltages.

I'm happy with my Dothan/Centrino (except for the Intel wireless card, but that's another story) in my notebook, using CrystalCPU to run CPU at 800MHz and somewhere under 1v for really long battery life when not gaming.

I'm happy with my Athlon 64 2800+ (socket 754 Newcastle) in my tower, overclocked to 2.4GHz and auto-underclocked to 1.33GHz/1.1v using RightMark CPU Clock Utility when CPU usage is low.

Well the price goes down for the Dothan even more if you buy a Celeron M at 100 bucks. The performance is similar to the Pentium Ms although the Pentium Ms do beat it by a bit. If you want real value gaming, then go with the Celeron M+adaptor which is combined around 130-150 bucks. The AMD venice OEM is around 120 dollars. The Dothan performs well in games, but as an all around Computer chip, and AMD still has a big advantage.

Also, to answer why people don't use Turions and overclock, the reason is that it doesn't support a 128Bit memory interface.

There are 3 reasons why AMD turion platform notebooks lose to Intel Centrino mobile platforms in battery life.

1) The AMD turion uses more power.
2) The AMD Turion uses DDR which uses around 2.6 volts. DDR2 uses 1.8 volts.
3) The AMD turion is USUALLy paired with Radeon X300 Integrated graphics. This uses more power than the crap Intel integrated Graphics.

If it were just one of these, then battery life would be close. But if you add up all three, battery life will be significantly lower than Intel Centrino platform notebooks. With AMD switching their turion processors to DDR2 next year, and Graphics chips getting more power efficient, AMD should close the battery life gap significantly. But yet again, who knows, Intel's 65 Nm process might just give it a little more edge in the battery life department.
