Dothan in a desktop?

Can a dothan be rigged into a desktop mb? Looking to build a very low power consuming server.

I know they have their own chipset so I don't think you can.


If you want low power but performance, then get a AthlonXP-M.

I am not sure on the pin count but I would imagine if not now they will likely be able to ....Remember the P4-M??? It can....But also remember a centrino is a P4m with the chipset so likely with the dothan as well the specific chipset can be a big advantage to the performance it will deliver....

there is a company that does this, i saw someone had linked it a few months back, its actually 1U server boards that use the dothan chipset, there were really pricey though, i'm sure someone ont he forum can find the link

Yea BUT it was using the 855 chipset that was made JUST for that CPU. So yes you can use them, BUT you just need to find a board that uses the correct chipset.

I think the OP wanted to just drop one in a reg. P4 board, which will not work. But he cpould drop in a MobilAthlonXP and do what he needs to do.

one of the posts said dothan is p4m with a chipset, this is incorect, it is Pentium M with chipset, not related to p4m (p4m = low power p4 for mobles), PentiumM = p3/p4 + lots of cache. Something doesnt sound right on that board ($400+ (dont remember exact dollar to yen, but it is slightly more then 100 yen to the dollar)
