do lite-ons suppose to have DMA support? I checked buy.com's page and it says that the cd-rw blaster has dma support. I have a pacific digital, which is also a lite-on rebadge, but the best it can do is pio mode 4. I checked the dma box under control panel, but no luck. Anybody knows how to enable dma for this drive? I know my mobo supports it, it's a VIA KX133.

Thanks

Yes, Lite-Ons do DMA fine...i used one w/ my KT7-RAID and it worked great for over 200 burns (then i traded it away)

GMaximus:
How do u enable dma support on the lite-on? i checked the dma box in control panel, but when i boot up, it always shows that drive as using pio mode 4 and not dma. I have exactly the opposite problem with my cd rom drive, at boot up, it shows it as using dma 33, but the dma box under control panel is never checked. Even if i check it, it unchecks itself after a reboot.

Is this drive similar to the Lite-Ons, Plextors, Pacific Digitals, and TDK drives?

Anyone made a flash bios for it yet? :)

Buy three of them and use a $30 off $300 coupon. No, that way lies madness. Anyone know what software comes with this puppy?

Cigar:
i only have 2 options in the BIOS screen, automatic or disable. If it's automatic, it will the optimum interface available, if disabled it'll just pick pio mode 4. But when set to automatic, it still ends up picking pio mode 4 and not dma :|

Some drives have jumpers that need to be correctly set on the backs of the drives. The correct setting should be in your manual or printed directly on the drive.

Hope this helps!

To my knowledge PIO Mode 4 does not support DMA. For example, my old Panasonic "Big 5" 12X Changer supports PIO Mode 4, but does not support DMA in any way. My Plextor 16/10/40A on the other hand supports DMA Mode 2, which is *not* Ultra DMA (I do not have the jumper set for Ultra DMA). The computer recognizes the two drives differently, the Panasonic supporting PIO Mode 2, and the Plextor supporting DMA Mode 2.

PIO Mode 4 and DMA Mode 2 do not go hand in hand, and I believe most computers will detect them differently.
