Dot on screen

I have bought a new laptop and was given a discount because the screen showed a single "dot". Otherwise the laptop is OK. Will the number of dots increase? or the screen deteriorate further in any way?

Thanks for any help.

The dot is called a 'bad pixel.' It shouldn't get worse. Some manufacturers allow a certain amount of dead pixels in thier products and state in the terms that unless a certain number are bad they will not accept a return.

Thanks. I got quite a bit of a discount for this and as I was abroad when I bought I could not check up about this at the time that I bought.

with increasing size/resolution with new LCD screens, more likely there will be some dead pixels.....

Depending on where the dead pixel is, it can be a non issue or totally annoying. Most manufacturers will not accept one bad pixel for a return no matter where on the screen it is. Luckily, both my laptop and desktop LCDs have no bad pixels.

Some people have had some success by very gently rubbing the screen around the bad pixel to get it working again. I would be very careful if you tried it though.

I have only one bad pixel and it doesn't bother me [esp when I think of the almost $130 discount that I got]. My only worry was whether the screen is bad and more bad pixels may appear later.

That's a healthy discount. You should feel very lucky! My LCD has two half-dead pixels, but so a) they are near a corner, and b) so did the display model, so I'm cool with it.
