dose S-video carry audio?

I just bought a WinTV USB so i could watch tv on my computer. It has a coax-in, for the cable of course, but then if i want to plug a vcr into it to watch on my computer, it has an s-video in, and a 1/8" audio in.
It came w/ an svideo > Composite adapter, but do i also have to use a composite > 1/8" audio adapter. just doesn't make too much sense

can someone try to explain
