Two quick questions
1.Will an antec 1040b case's power supply work with a athlon xp cpu? Whats the deal with the amd approved power supply? (I say in a Seinfeld voice)
2.After I get my new system put together can I hook up my stereo to the Sound Blaster Audigy card? My stereo is not digital or anything its just a four speaker surround sony system. Would it work if I fiddle with the input/output on the stereo and the card?

Ok thank you..

1)
XP's are picky about having good, stable power supplies. I don't know if that particular one is AMD approved, though (and i suggest you get an AMD approved one). so therefore, i have to withdraw any opinion

2)
You should have no problem hooking it up to your stereo, provided you have at LEAST one "auxiliary" input....basically, you would get a simple 1/8 inch stereo to dual RCA adapter and then run a normal RCA cable to the AUX input of your stereo...no digital required.

it's preguntas, not pregunto. That means "I ask"

As for the PS, from everything I've read, the safest bet seems to be to use an amd approved PS. Also depends on who's making the ps. The Antec PP403x is approved up to the 1900+. It's a 400w ps that comes with the 1040 (the 40 denotes the ps. The 1030 has a 300 watter, etc.). Check the amd site for specific make and model approval. I just put together an XP 1600+ and there are companies that have more than 1 model of PS at the same wattage, you gotta watch it and make sure that the particular one your're looking at is approved.

Sohcrates is right on about the the mini plug to RCA adapter. They're like 3 or 4 bucks at RadioShack. I did it on my SB Live Value. I would recommend the gold plated one from RS. I had the non gold one, and the gold one, and it actually did work better, there was less feedback.

Here's the AMD site that lists the approved PSU's for the various chips.

Ok I just read this on the amd page

<< The following power supplies are recommended for their capability to supply appropriate power on both the +5-VDC and +3.3-VDC power rails. In addition, this list is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of all power supplies that support AMD Athlon? processors. >>

Here is the info for the ps for the 1040. I see that those numbers also appear on this page although I do not know what VDC means. Appropriate power? Are they talking about wattage?

Thank you for your time...

Jynx980,

The power supply in the 1040B is one of the better power supplies available. It will have no problem powering any athlon. The sx1040B is an excellent case if you decide on it.

Actually, no . . . "estoy" is used to designate location or status. "Soy" is the form for personal condition. :)
