DOS GAMES in Windows XP - whats the secret to getting some of them to work?

I want to play an old game that runs natively in DOS... particularly planet's edge. Is there any kind of tweak or settings to get this game and others to work properly in Windows XP? I've tried fittling with some compatibility settings to no avail. Is the only alternative to setup DOS with my old P-180? I'd rather not do that since I dont even have my dos disks anymore.

This is not General Hardware related.

When you looked at the compatibility tab, did you look at the memory tab? Try setting coventional memory to 600 and EMS/XMS to whatever the game requires.
