On RAM: The terabyte is one billion bytes [ed: author had been using powers of 10 for simplicity, it was 1993 after all], or enough RAM to bring down the power on your block when you boot the PC.

On the "Computer Box": System unit, or combative FCC Class B approved anti-EMF regulated shield with titanium white finish

On connecting serial printers: To get everything wokring right, you must occasionally make a full-moon sacrifice to the UNIX god, or sing "Zip-A-Dee-Dooo-Dah" while holding your nose and hopping on one foot.

On RAM again: That 8MB of extra memory that Quattro Pro would like could cost you as much as $500.

On the ScrollLock Key: The ScrollLock key is vaguely defined and doesn't do anything under DOS. [ed: It doesn't do anything under Windows either!]

On keyboards: On a typical PC, you can type ahead up to 16 characters.

On modems: A communications program is software that controls the connection between your computer and some other remote computer system, such as an on-line service (like CompuServe, GEnie, or MCI Mail) or a local BBS (like the other services but cheaper and run by some kid in your neighborhood).

On online behavior: Never criticize someone over their spelling. English is a beautiful and rich language, utterly lacking in logic or spelling rules. Phonics, ha! It starts with a P fer chrissake! There's no sense in drilling someone on their spelling (unless it's truly awful, in which case you're probably dealing with a 12-year-old) [ed: or an ATOT member]

It's amazing how little some things change over the span of 15 years.;)

Hehe. Y'know, I look up 'Scroll Lock' on Wikipedia every other month to learn of its mysterious origins and somehow manage to forget everything about it. As of today, I must have looked at that article at least a dozen times and I still have no clue what it did. :D

Hey now, that Scroll Lock key is useful. In Homeworld 2, it's used to save screenshots to disk. :D
I wish it was that way for every game.

The scroll lock key article linked me to the article on the System Request key.

It begins

System request is a key on keyboards for PCs that has no use.

:)

I threw away my DOS for Dummies book about a year ago. Of course I never really used it .
