Is there such a thing as a burn in test like prime95 torture test, but you can put it on a bootable floppy? It'd make torture testing easier without risking one's hard drives.

But it's when your OS is loaded that you need the stress testing. It's much harder to run stable in an OS than it is from DOS. When you're stress testing, you're testing how the entire OS reacts under the load that is generated on it by overclocking.

Memtest86

Only truely DOS based one I know of. Go check out the Motherboard or CPU forum and there should be a thread stickied that contains all the programs required for burn-in and testing.

memtest86 only tests RAM it doesn't stress the CPU.

You can probably find a distributed.net client that runs from a bootable floppy although it'll likely be Linux not DOS but does it really matter?

There is a DOS based program called "Burnin.exe" that tests all of your hardware, although I am not sure whether it will run on today's fast CPUs and video cards. You can give it a whirl if you want to try it. It takes about 200K on a floppy, so you could probably fit it on a DOS bootable floppy. I have a copy of the program.
