Dorm room sound? Good 2.0 or 2.1 setup for PC.

Can somebody recommend me a good set of speakers for a dorm room. The speakers would be for PC use. I'd like to listen to general mp3 music and play a couple games. I don't need it for blasting sound for parties or anything like that. I've got a different setup for that.

Do I need that subwoofer in the 2.1? My uses are general gaming and general itunes/mp3 music listening? Do I need that .1 in 2.1, or should I just get a nice 2.0 setup.

I don't need surround sound, as even when I did have surround sound for the pc, I never used it. I would just put the speakers in front. So I'm looking definately at 2.0 or 2.1.

Are there any light setups that include direct aux input, such as mini-stereo direct input to the speaker system? Are there any setups that include a direct headphone out? Those two features, one for pluggin in my headphone direct, and two for using the speakers for game consoles directly with a right/left to mini-stereo converter. Are there any setups that include these nice features.

Please, recommend away. Thx again.

Wow, the Klipshc 2.0 have both headphone out and aux in. Wow.

Can you use the "different setup" for your PC too?

I can't really use the other setup for the sound. It wouldn't be ideal.

Are there any cheaper alternative that have headphone out and aux in?

The other folks in the dorm might appreciate it if you got a good pair of headphones instead or as well. 🙂

I'll just stick with my Bose headphones for now I suppose. I don't need my roomie getting pissed off, like I do when he starts blaring sound.

See I have a dillema. Using my Headphones with computer is fine, however using them with my dvd player/xbox 360 is not so good. The problem.....no volume control. I'm taking the right/left and using a radio shack red/white to 1/8" stereo headphone jack, so no where can I control volume.....so I'm stuck. My thoughts.

1)20$ Radio Shack Amp (Gitaroo I belive). I'm kinda wary, I want something good.

2) Build my own AMP in Mint Box. The Chu Moy project...20$

3) Buy a 2.0 Speaker set...such as the Klipsch..that have an aux in, headphone out, and a volume knob. I'm kinda in need of a new set of speakers anywhoo....since my Logitech's are crapping out. Front Left Speaker goes in and out of operations at will.

I'd go with Altec Lansing MX5021 (only if you can find it for under $150) or the Klipsch Promedia 2.1. Both are solid sets in that range.

If you need to go cheaper you could go with the Logitech Z2300 which can be found for under 100 on Newegg I believe.
