I have in a dorm that houses about 800 students. This is my first year away at school in the dorms. I moved into a double room with my friend and after a while he decided that he would rather have a single room in a different dorm which was fine with me. I have since been living in the same double room without a roomate. The college has decided to begin their consolidation process now so that people on the single room waiting list can get a single room. They decided to move me into a double room on the same floor.

I met the new roomate tonight. It's not good. I walk into the room and it stinks immediately. It's a horrible rotting/BO smell and it's freakin gross. He doesn't have a computer and I'm not letting him use mine so I must lock this baby down with passwords.

I was not given the option to pay money to make my room into a single. I don't want to move in with a stinky person. I'm not that fussy and I'm easy to get along with. Maybe I should claim that the smell will mess my alergies up which might very well happen. I'm on the waiting list for this building for a single room, like #72 right now and it's always changing. I've moved like 10 spots in a week. I'm on the list for another building too. I hate all this moving crap when what I should be concentrating on is school work. The school is just moving us to make money because single rooms go for more. This sucks, PAB says I should work the system and demand satisfaction.

Any positive comments aprreciated and this is beyond a febreeze problem. It's cold out and it smells, wonder what it will smell like when it warms up.

Don't worry, by the time it warms up, you'll get used to the smell. Either that or you'll end up smelling as bad, just give it time.

And your sarcasm meter is broken.

Dude, if it's really just unhealthy and nasty, you should complain about it. It's supposed to be like your home; it doesn't work if you hate going there. Try asking him about it first, though. Maybe he doesn't know it.

but seriously, why don't you talk to someone in charge? if you can't tolerate your roommate, you should be able to change.

I'm not trying to be racist here at all but the color of his skin does not help at all. I'm not sure how to describe it other than tan and maybe some of the smell comes from him naturally. Maybe he doesn't shower and I'm not about to ask him about it. It's not just him, it's the whole room and the room is only 10.5' x 15' so it's not like I can get away from it too much. The people all around his room told me he was different before I even met him. They wouldn't say why or how but just told me to wait and see. His last roomate couldn't stand him and thats why he moved out. I'd move into a different dorm but there is nothing available and apartments are not an option this far into the school year.

He's kinda Indian, black, white. My RA didn't know how to describe him. She didn't know about it and now she does. I have her on my good side especially right now as I fixed her laptop for her for nothing. She knows all about him even though she lives in the female hallway. The male RA doesn't know about it yet but I'll have to track him down and let him know too. They are gonna try to get me a room on a different floor or something, anything to avoid me staying with him.

You should be able to talk to the administration about this. If it bothers you this much, complain or not, it could affect how you perform in the classroom. They could easily put you at the top of the list for a single room and if you don't go talking about it, nobody should start yelling 'unfair treatment'.

It couldn't hurt to at least mention it to someone. Nobody should be forced to live in an environment that makes it difficult to carry out every day activities, especially where your education is concerned.

I don't understand something: you were in originally in a double room and the other guy left then they made you move into another room?! That's a major hassle and inconvenience to you. They should have gone down their list of people waiting for housing (if one exists) and moved them into the double with you.

Go down the housing office and start complaining. It's amazing what that will get you. Last year my school squeezed three people into a room meant for two and charged the same price. They were willing to give refund checks, but only to those who complained.

Thats the problem, no one wants to live in a double room. I can find someone to move in with me and they will allow that but I don't know anyone who needs/wants to move.

I'm hoping they will move me towards the front of the list without telling anyone, etc.
