ayee.. sorry to hear that, Danny. Gotta agree tho, some of the dorms on this campus REALLY suck. small 1-rm doubles with small bathroom that's all the way down the hall that you share with like 20 other people..

wireless!! :D

man, i miss living in the dorm. :)

we had *way* too much fun there. after freshman year, all of us came back to live in the same wing, and we had a bunch of really cool incoming freshmen as well. we had our doors open all the time...more like having a big house than a bunch of closed-off smaller rooms. people would wander in and hang out at all hours...

heh, my dorm is getting air conditions, but no wireless. The perk is that i dont have a roommate, we all have our own rooms.

Sounds almost identical to my dorm experience. We ran our own network and played Quake 2 all day and night (this was over 3 years ago). Had our doors open all the time, wandered in and out of rooms, ect. Of course, one of those years I was an RA and let some things slide ;) Oh well, no harm, no foul. My floor had the lowest amount of fines on the campus. Amazing how well your floor works when you have a cool RA *cough* me *cough*. We had standard "Porn and Brew Night" on Sunday evenings in my room :)

heh...dang i'm feeling old. back in my day we were playing DOOM! yep, you could tell what was going on by the excessive cussing flying up n' down the hall. i got so proficient speed typing [censored] that people thought i had it as a hotkey. i remember we'd take a study break to get in a quick round of DOOM...[4 hours later]..."OMG my exam's in ten minutes!"

and yeah, cool RA's kick ass! ours would call us up and say "guys i'm making my rounds so hide the booze." as for the no microwave policy, he used to send people to my room to nuke their stuff up. :)

hehehe, yeah, a dorm is just not a dorm without LAN parties and microwaving random semi-edible food items in the middle of the night. (but, duh, of course there are more to dorms than just that.. :))

Another nice thing about being friends with an RA is for those sudden moments of dumb assedness where you'd stroll down the hall sporting nothing but a towel and realize that you left your keys in your now locked room and your roomate is gone for the weekend. DOH!!!

We were supposed to give lockouts one freebee and then charge $5 after that. I usually just charged a beer and a handful of chips and left it at that :)

lol...talking about getting locked out of your room...

my friends were part of the orientation team so they got to move in early during our sophomore year. i snuck in with them to get a headstart moving all my crap in. well i wake up early in the morning and went to the bathroom...when i get back, i try my handle and find the door is locked! well i'm thinkin' i'm screwed...stuck outside in my boxers when i'm not even supposed to be in the dorm yet so i can't exactly mosey over to student housing and request an extra key.

i go to the room next door and ask the guy if i could hop out his window and scuttle along the ledge to get back into my room. (we were on the third floor...and he was used to this from me) looking out the window i see about ten RA's hanging around on the quad outside (forget how much the fine was for walking on the ledge but it was pretty substantial). feeling brave/stupid so i hop out and pray none of the RA's look up to see a half nekkid guy scampering on the ledge. so i climb in my window and figure i got away with it.

and find out my door was unlocked.

i was so tired i tried to open the wrong door coming back from the bathroom.

Well, you had three keys to get in - one into the building, one onto your floor, and then another to get into your room. My college was in a really windy town on top of a river bluff and if you and the guy across the hall had their doors open, and windows open, the draft would suck your door shut if you left it open.

The doors to our dormrooms were automatically locking unless you twist the handle and disengage it. Most people would just open their doors and leave the lock on. They would then walk down to the shower and while they were in the shower their doors would get sucked shut locking them out.

There's also the situation where roomate forgets that you are on the floor and locks the door behind them without checking to see if you have your keys on you.

Just stupid little things like that that would lock you out of your room :)
