I finished moving in my dorm and when i went to try out the ethernet it wasn't working.. i know my ethernet card works .. when i connect the cable to the port i don't the link led the lightup. also since im living in an apartment my , im able to use ethernet inthe other room and living room , but not in my room.. any suggestions? i called networking help and they said itll take at least 2 days before someone is able to come over and take a look. Hopefully this will help me fix the problem faster 🙂

Chances are it's something in the walls. Wait the two days that it'll take networking to get to you after all the other incoming students and be happy that at least it works in your other rooms.

I agree with Ladi. Must be a bad wire inthe walls. You could go out and get a 25 ft cable to get you by untill they fix it.

Crossover would be a waste of money unless they wired that one jack wrong. My guess is that either your jack is not activated at the MDF or you may be plugged into a bad or partitioned port. There is always the possibility of bad wiring, but you'd be better off just letting the techs do their job then worry about it. I know cause I used to be one of those techs... You could always get the long cable if you want to spend the money for a short-term fix, but I'm sure they'll get it going soon for you...

this might help.
I know at UGA the linksys pc cards don't work with the network. I don't know about the regulare linksys nics.

They are fixing the problem, so, what I am saying is, go to best buys. Buy a new nic and test that out. if it works, keep it, if not take back and wait for man to come buy.

Trend it is not his card. If you read his post you will note that he has tried it in other rooms in the apartment and it works fine. It is just in the bedroom it does not work. Has to be a bad wire or jack or whatever.
