IIRC the article said that CFD assisted 23 others off of the elevator.

24 to be exact. The weight capacity of the elevator was 2500 lbs. I can pretty much gurantee that the people on there each weighed more than 100lbs each.

A local news story shows exactly what it lookes like, they chalked out the area of the elevator in a parking lot and then crammed 24 people into the square and they looked like sardines.....no wonder the thing dropped.

It would be unfair to hold the university solely responsible for this, that would be like holding Volkswagon liable for an accident when you have 10 people crammed into a bug.
