then asked me if i had a spare unbrella she could use since it was raining out

i just gave her the most intimidating "i don't want to talk to you" stair i could give her and she seemed to leave right away

May I see your solicitation permit from the township? Oh, you don't have one? Excuse me while I call the police.

When I was younger and lived with my parents still, we wouldn't get to many sales people, but we'd get a ton of Jahova Witnesses. I'd just saw I was happy with my current belifes and say goodbye.

Then this spring I was outside my apartment cleaning the bird poop off my car, and some jackoff selling shady insurance came up to me, and I listened to him, and then told him I was not interested. He then made fun of my car as he walked away...saying something about it not even worth cleaning.

Let the dog bark away while I look out the window. I don't recognize them I don't bother answering the door.

"No Soliciting" sign + "No Thanks" + point to sign + close door

If they knock again, trying to claim I was being rude by closing the door in their face, then it's:

"No Soliciting" sign + "No Thanks" + point to sign with shotgun + close door

about 6 months ago i answered the door to one of them

they asked me if my parents were home (havent lived at home for 5 years now) - that pissed me off so i told him that i wasnt interested and started to close the door. then he got pissed and said very confrontationally - "you arent interested in saving the environment/whales/children/animals/poor people?!" i was taken aback for a second that he would be so rude, but i really did not want to speak any longer so i said, "nope" and shut the door. then he told me that i was a selfish person and would be going to hell.

they are just a louder and more imposing form of spam and should be eradicated likewise

If they are actual sales people, i open the door and let my giant german shepherd scare them away. if they are doing some sort of religious thing...i let the dog out...

They'd probably laugh at you and hang up here. Seriously though, they won't even come out to a car accident unless there is an injury.

What's up with the passive aggressive stare? Why not just grow a pair and tell her that you're not interested in anything she's selling and that you don't have an extra umbrella for her? Are you worried about hurting her feelings or something?

Say this:
"Thats sounds intersting, why dont you come in and we'll take a bath."

If that dose not work, slam the door and lock it!

Even if they don't come out where you live, the person at the door won't know that. If the thought that the police are coming is enough for the person to get in the car and leave, at least you've saved your neighbors from going through the same thing.
