I work for a commercial real estate company as the IT/Marketing guy, and I was getting some water when I heard the front door chime go on. I went to see what was going on, and these two idiots were stanging there trying to sell me a pasta pot for $29.95

Does this normally happen to anyone else? At work? Why would you go around to businesses to sell pasta pots? Who cooks bowls of pasta in an office??? What a bunch of idiots.

Put up a "Posted: No Soliciting" sign on the front door. This should make it legal to shoot them, or release hungry, rabid guard dogs.

YMMV, of course.

we have people that come around at least once a month with a bag full of random crap that they are trying to sell. They come in packs you will see 10 of these guys hop out of a van, and go to all the business around where i work.

Heh, we had some wierd terrorist things go on around here awhile back so now there are alot of security measures going on at work. One thing is that noone is allowed in a 50 foot radius of the building without an ID card. One day these two guys came up to the smoking area trying to sell stuff. We told them to go to the receptionist and talk about it. 3 mins later we watched security throw them out of the area. I mean wouldn't you think that if there was a locked gate keeping you from driving up to a place that means you shouldn't walk over with a big brown box? it was rather amusing.

Me! Sometimes... Actually, I needed a new (forgetting the word... like a backpack, but more of a briefcase style). I had one that I received as an xmas gift from wife... she paid ~30 bucks for it. Some idiot had them 10 apiece, 2 for 15, for one identical to the one I already had (but had just ripped the previous week). So, I got 2, one for the wife. They've had plenty of other good deals on occasion.

A guy showed up at my place once selling pizzas. $5.00 each, medium Pepperoni. I bought 2, was hungry so it was great. I think the place was called "The Box" or something like that. In SJ, CA.

At work? No, never.

Mind you, being behind two twelve-pin medical locks and a security keypad helped keep the riffraff out.

Yesterday some chump shows up to my door and tried to sell me a subscription to the local paper. I'm like sorry dude don't need it. He says "come on, it's just 4.95 for a whole month, with hundreds of dollars worth of coupons inside. You should be paying ME for this subscription." I laughed in his face and said well that's 4.95 to much because the internet is free. Then he goes into this whole "the monitor will kill your eyes and you don't want to wait for all those pages to load because they just take so long". I say broadband is great, and when news happens i have it instantly rather then waiting for tomorrow to read it in the paper because by then it's old news.

The dude got sick of the fact I had a great rebuttle for everything he said and eventually just walked away pissed off. It was very satisfying.

I know it's annoying but those people are just trying to make a living like you are. Deal with it.

"What'll you do? Release the guard dogs? Guard dogs with bees in their mouths so when they bark they shoot bees at you?"

Back when I worked at the computer store, we'd get guys who'd come in all dressed up trying to get us to sell giant coloring books. Uh, hello, this is a computer store. The kind of person who shops here doesn't come here expecting giant coloring books.

I kind of feel bad for the kids doing it. They look fresh out of college, like they fell for one of those "work for students" ads in the paper.

Apparently, they tried to sell us coloring books and children's stuff too. I suppose we can include a free coloring book with any new lease signed as a value-added bonus.

Now there's a big selling point. Screw these $2000 cash back and 0% APR offers. If I can get a free coloring book, I'd hit it. ;)

Ok so I read this post this morning at work, and thought "Yeah, I get guys selling Candy at my door every other night.. but a pasta pot? No way, that's strange..."

So I go to get my haircut at my lunch break, and sure enough as I'm sitting there a dude all dressed up in a suite walks in in one arm a "Perfect Pasta Pot - As Seen on TV", and in the other arm some other various pieces of crap for sale.

Didn't know exactly how to explain to the lady cutting my hair why I was laughing.. "well, you see I was on this message board this morning..etc".. pretty good stuff, especially when the security guard caming running from another store in the little plaza to come and grab the guy!
