Do you agree with this? They moved it forward due to "unchecked climate change, global nuclear weapons modernizations, and outsized nuclear weapons arsenals". Do you think that anything related to nuclear weapons has recently happened that puts us in any more danger? Especially global danger which is what I though the Doomsday clock was supposed to represent - the apocalypse.

I am with the 99% and agree that climate change is being influenced by humans and causing environmental problems (in fact I agree so much that the candidate that takes climate change seriously and will do something about it will more than likely get my vote irregardless of their other policy stances), but does it bring us closer to an imminent Armageddon? Three minutes to midnight worthy? I think it is more of a creeping but very real issue, that will slowly erode the viability of human life on earth, not like a nuclear war where life could be wiped out in a matter of hours/days.

The only thing funnier than paying attention to the Doomsday Clock as if it was relevant is the idea that a candidate could do something about climate change even if it was an actual danger.

Climate change? Climate change? What a crock of shit! The owner of the Weather Channel doesn't even believe in the soup du jour word "climate change"/"Global warming."

Let me just give you a little story on this "climate change" doomsday bullshit.

During WWII, Irena, got permission to work in the Warsaw ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist. She had an ulterior motive.

Irena smuggled Jewish infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried. She also carried a burlap sack in the back of her truck, for larger kids.

Irena kept a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers, of course, wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.

During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants. Ultimately, she was caught, however, and the Nazi's broke both of her legs and arms and beat her severely.

Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she had smuggled out, In a glass jar that she buried under a tree in her back yard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and tried to reunite the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.

In 2007 Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize.
She was not selected.
Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.

Now if the Doomsday clock was moved closer to 12 because of Iran I could believe it.

Global warming bullcrap belongs in P&N as that's what the driving force behind it is. Politically driven money and power grab, in the name of "saving the planet" by a bunch of hypocrites.

Yeah, that will fit into your funny "bingo" image there. I could create the same for the opposite viewpoint. Too bad bingo cards don't make an argument valid.

Still waiting for someone to prove that giving some fat cats in Washington more tax dollars will somehow change the global climate :colbert:

Does the free market stop working when you don't like the effect an action is supposed to have? Taxes increase effective prices, thus reducing demand. If the largest sources of pollution are taxed the most, the market will naturally favor the more sustainable alternatives. They could light that tax money on fire (literally, I mean) and it would have the same effect on the market.

More on-topic: the doomsday clock is a seriously outdated advocacy tool. It had a use during the entire cold war and perhaps shortly after, but that's a solid 20 years ago now. It's irrelevant.

Less on-topic: John Connor is wrong about everything, again. There is no debate about the big picture of climate change outside of political and social circles. Professionals and those educated in relevant fields (i.e. people that actually have a clue) are almost completely unanimous about man-made climate change. People don't resist that idea because of facts or legitimate research, they resist it out of ideology, dogma, because in their gut they already know the truth and they don't need anyone with an education to tell them what it is.

Even less on-topic: irregardless still isn't a word. :colbert:

No we're telling you things are really really bad! Are you listening to us? THIS IS IMPORTANT! YOU MUST LISTEN TO US!

No matter how good things are there's someone somewhere about to have a panic stroke about something, and they'd just love it if you joined in.

It's just that the boujwa Liberals are inconvenienced by people like me and you. They smell their own farts and drive hybrids.

Temperatures rise = Global Warming
Temperatures lower = Global Warming
Climate gets wet = Global Warming
Climate gets dry = Global Warming
More hurricanes = Global Warming
Fewer hurricanes = Global Warming
Milder winters = Global Warming
Harsher winters = Global Warming
Hotter summers = Global Warming
Cooler summers = Global Warming
Car breaks down = Global Warming
Cat gets pregnant = Global Warming
...and on and on.

Global Warming (previously known as Global Cooling and occasionally known as Climate Change, Extreme Weather, and other euphemisms) is a religion. And like a religion, it's full of arbitrary, contradictory, self-affirming, shifting, and incoherent claims asserted as unassailable truth (immediately dropped the moment another becomes more advantageous) that literally anything can be true, for any reason, from any person, at any time.

Your entire post is just fail. Ignorance? Check. Political dogma spewing? Check. Posting chainmail as fact? Check. Inability to use even basic logic skills? Check. Fearmongering? Check.

Who fucking cares what the owner of the Weather Channel thinks? It's owned by a media company and 2 financial holding companies (whose sole aim is money). But hey, I'll assume you're talking about one of the founders, John Coleman, who, well no one but a moron would care what he thinks on the issue since he literally has nothing to back up his arguments beyond his personal opinion (hell his apparent reason for becoming a climate change denier is because they turned off the lights during studio parts of a football broadcast)

As for Irena (Sendler), there's no proof that he won it over her:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/sendler.asp

Gore and the IPCC jointly won it. You can always tell people's true colors, like when people discuss this, they only mention Gore.

That's not a little story about global warming, it literally has nothing at all to do with it. It's a completely different topic. Seriously what a completely moronic attempt at a sequitur. I know you seem to struggle with logic and you've gone on record of your learning deficiencies (that you're actually outright proud of...) but damn.

Global warming bullcrap belongs in P&N as that's what the driving force behind it is. Politically driven money and power grab, in the name of "saving the planet" by a bunch of hypocrites.

The only people politicizing it are the people who start discussing it by going "I'm not a scientist" (which is just them saying they don't have a fucking clue what they're talking about, but damnit their opinion is every bit as valid as the thousands of scientists who provide objective data showing otherwise) and then go out of their way to prove they not only don't they know what they're talking about on that subject, their grasp of basic facts, logic, and reasoning are total dogshit.

Indeed it doesn't. Nor does ignoring all objective observation or deluding yourself into believing it's just a political issue so you can try to ignore it.

What's really fucked up is how the conservatives used to be major proponents of protecting the environment. Then for no apparent reason other than to just be against an issue that their political boogeyman archrivals care about, they're practically outright in favor of ruining it. Furthermore, even the "fiscal conservatives" who claim to be against the government doing something about just because of the money/tax issues don't seem to realize we're often actively subsidizing things that are just making it worse. Not only that, but that's also ignoring all the external costs to things like health care, environmental issues (care to defend BP oil spill to gulf fishermen?). The suggested taxes are to try to actually make the costs reflect real costs (and actually even the suggested ones don't come anywhere close to doing that to give you an idea of how out of whack it is). It's economists who have been pushing for that, since taxes on externalities is a proven method of reigning it in.

Still waiting for you to provide a legitimate valid argument against climate change.

What a joke. Never knew this and if true its disgusting.

Agreed.

It's not. Well, unless he wants to condemn every other person that's won it instead of her in the what 70+ years since then? The only joke is that he apparently takes chainmail as fact.

It's just that the boujwa Liberals are inconvenienced by people like me and you. They smell their own farts and drive hybrids.

boujwa? The fuck? Oh, you're trying to use bourgeois? Hahahahaha. How cute. But then what's a true American patriot like you trying to use French words for? Fucking socialist! Bet you like french fries too!

More fail. But then we already know you don't understand even basic tenets of science, but hey don't let your ignorance stop you from not knowing what you're talking about, it's not like that makes you a hypocrite or anything...

Hilarious that you criticize others for contradictory, self-affirming, shifting, and incoherent claims when that pretty much sums up your posts.

I am also shocked that someone that doesn't "believe" in academic consensus would not know how to spell bourgeois.

It's not.

Note I said if its true and apparently based on the Snope's link you posted its not, at least in the sense that we have no actual evidence she was nominated. My bad for not researching myself before I commented.

As for Global Warming itself I think the only real questions at this point are whether we are the primary cause and more importantly can we do anything meaningful to stop it. The obvious visible evidence that its happening is pretty overwhelming.
