Doom3 surround

When i try to enable surround sound inside of Doom3 I get a message that no surround speakers were detected. I have an Asus K8NE Deluxe mobo with Realtek ALC850 sound controller. I have the creative inspire 4.1 speakers.

FYI, the speakers have been configured for surround in windows settings.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Let's leave Doom3 out of this for a second. Can you get surround sound in any other programs, like in the speaker setup tests or anything else?

Surround is fine in another applications like watching a movie in power dvd. Issue is specific to Doom 3.

I really don't know. I'll suggest everything because I don't know what you've tried so far.
Check Doom 3 options to ensure surround is activiated (even try to enable EAX if it's an option). Get the latest drivers from ASUS for your sound.

Saw this on tweakguides.com, a way to force a certain number of speakers in Doom3. Scroll near the bottom of the page and you should see this line specifically:

s_numberOfSpeakers [2,4,5,6] - This value shows the number of speakers the game has detected, based on the your general Windows settings and In-Game settings. You can manually alter this value, however make sure it matches your current speaker setup otherwise you will have missing audio channels.
