Nope. There are other games that have my attention and Doom won't be one of them.

No I won't buy it for $55. It's not because it's that much more expensive, it's the principle. They think they can charge more for it just because they know people have been waiting forever and going crazy wanting the game. That's just an underhanded way to do things. I bet lots of people will say screw it and download it.

You sound surprised. They need some way to recoup their massive development costs. The average selling price of video games have stayed about the same for 5 years, yet development costs have skyrocketed.

I just wish I could buy the game directly from ID, rather than through a publisher that takes most of the profit.

Then I think we're starting to reach a point where the correlation between development costs and game selling price is going to become a problem. I mean if prices start to go up to $60 or more for one game that's a bit much IMO. I know development costs are increasing, but it's going to be hard for me to justify (and afford) spending that much on games, and I think a lot of other people will be in the same boat.

Why would you guys think that you won't be able to find it anywhere else cheaper than GameStop?

Nah. id's development cost have stayed pretty constant. They arent like other companies who have massive, and sometimes redundent staff. id is a lean company. id recoups, and then some, with their engine licenses. id is not a company that had to worry about money either.

Two weeks after its release it will be on sale for $35 at B&M stores, as are every newly release PC game.

After all the hardware upgrades its requring, they'd be lucky if the average person even considered it.

I know you can run it at lower, only fair quality settings, but you don't buy a sports car just to drive it nice and slow, do ya?

These guys are right, it will be $50 other places and will probably go on sale.

We'd merely be reaching a point where less and less risky games are put in development and the market will trim off the fat.

Its not quite accurate that development costs are increasing. Sure some games budgets are HUGE, much akin to OSI's games before they were bought out by EA. But thats due to incompetent management, and having redundent employement.

Great philosophy.

So next game can be 60, it's only 5 bucks more.

Then the next 65.

Why not 75?

Your getting too used to console games.... most new pc games are 40 at best buy the day it hits shelves and they drop to 30-35 after the first 2 weeks or so.

I'll pay it. I remember when Id first released Quake1. They didn't even have it in stores, you had to call Id Software directly and purchase it over the phone and they'd send it to you in a cardboard container :). They've come a long way with a small team and I for one will support the quality they bring to the table. Especially since Carmack may be getting out of the business soon.
