Doom3 demo for BFG 6800GT OC

I just got a BFG 6800GT OC card from Best Buy. It's really nice. However, I'm puzzled by the frames-per-second measurement from the Doom3 timedemo test. I have a 3Ghz P4, by the way.

I already know how to invoke the test (at the Doom3 console, enter timedemo demo1). However, the first time I run it, the result is relatively slow (about 45 fps) largely due to loading from the hard drive (I can hear the drive chugging). If I immediately run it a subsequent time, I get a much faster time (~58 fps) because everything (probably the textures) is loaded to memory (I can't hear the hard drive).

Which of these two measurements should I consider if I want to compare my system to online published tests?

There is no need to run the whole timedemo to cache the textures. You can simply type

timedemo demo1.demo usecache

This is the figure you can use to compare to sites.

oh n make sure u got vsync off.....i had it one an i wondered why i only got like 56fps when others were gettin in the 70's

so its in the advanced settings when u playin round with the doom 3 graphics settings in the game

the use timedemo demo1 1 at the console and ur set

Thanks all for the information.

Another question: I was looking at the measured FPS shown in a benchmarking experiment by HardOCP, and it lists as its experimental parameters no AA (antialiasing) and 8x AF (anisotropic filtering?). What parameters in the Doom3 settings would I manipulate to match those shown at HardOCP?
