Doom3 and HL2 Release Dates

Does anyone have any real evidence of when both of these games will be released? A lot of people here have been upgrading specifically for both games and it seems that they won't be due any time soon. Please post any links you might have (except for the cnn money one about hl2 because it is just plain depressing) so we can form some kind of consensus as to when we'll need to be prepared.

Thanks,
Spotti

Nobody knows. Really, I'd be willing to bet that Valve and id would have a tough time accurately saying when the games will be out. Hopefully sooner than later though.

According to several press releases, HL2 is sometimes summer.
And Doom3; Well AmazonUK say December, while other UK sites say March or April.

Still can't believe that people haven't learned to NOT upgrade "for game XXXX" until AFTER game XXXX hits the shelves....

1) You get the final reviews w/official drives to see real performance differences.
2) The longer you wait, the cheaper the prices
3) Games, more often than not, are delayed and delayed again and others will laff at you 🙂

Some people don't have the money to upgrade every 6 months to keep up to date with games. It's time I put my current computer to rest and get a new one. I want my new computer to run half life 2 and I probably won't get another computer for 3-4 years. So your saying I shouldn't care whether my new computer can run half life 2? that I should wait 2 and a half years to play it if my new setup runs it like crap? Seriously though Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 are already done and are going to be simutaniously released with Duke Nukem Forever for publicity points.... ok maybe not so serious.

Then don't upgrade. Boo hoo.

It's not like a Radeon 9600 (or whatever) won't run the game when it's delayed another 6 months, the point is that there will be brand new hardware available then (at the same price or cheaper) which runs it better.

Specifically, the dozens of threads in the last months asking for "WHICH CARD FOR HL2"?!?!?

If you buy one generation behind then you won't be dissapointed when the next big thing arrives late. Save a little money in the bargain as well.

seriously guys, HL2 isn't going to be released until Q2/2005. just face it. that's when vampire 2 is going to be released and that uses the source engine as well. summer is just a point in time where valve can push the date back again.

Any release date for HL2 is nothing but garbage at this point. They've already delayed it - twice - and I seriously doubt their initial claim about the code theft causing the original delay. I think it wasn't finished and would've been delayed anyway but the code theft delayed it further. I'll probably still purchase it but I'm not going to bother looking at screenshots, trailers, or any other hype.

As far as Doom3, I hope it's not another ID game where everything takes place indoors with only red, orange, black, brown, and grey for colors.

The games I'm looking forward to are Far Cry (soon) and later this year Stalker, and Tribes Vengeance. All three of them look excellent and have both indoor and outdoor areas.

You should upgrade your computer about every 2 full years to keep getting great performance. When you buy a new computer get something High End or somthing close to that for ex. 5900 instead of 5900 Ultra or Athlon 2800+ instead of Athlon 3200+. Very similar performances here. In other words, get the items that are above the price/performance point, but don't go all the way. And it is true that you shouldn't buy a piece of hardware for a game until it comes out.

if you go for a rad 9600 and sub 3 ghz (or rated) proc now, u save so much money that u CAN afford to upgrade again in six months whenever the game has BEEN released. upgrading before u even know what the game will run like is just plain stuipid. if u have the game ANd it runs sluggish. then u can upgrade. I still have a ti4400 which is an "old" card by PC standards. yet I havent got a single came I cannot play at a performance/look that is acceptable to me. only halo and tombraider had to be run at very low settings in PixelShader departement but those seem badly coded since other games can run pixelshaders on my card. (up to the level it supports)

I have to agree. I bought a 9800, but I bought it because I wanted better performance in games I have NOW like tomb raider. Which by the way, I loved, even if every review site hated it. I thought it was great.
