Already saw it... Good movie but it has some of those Hollywood or whoever made it, holes. Such as the year is 2140 and weapons technology and medical technology hasn't advanced mainly because they are still using defibulators and adrenaline... They also use Xm8's which we will see in about 1-2 years on the battlefield. I mean 100 and 35 years away... come on.

I can't imagine wasting hard-earned money on such drek. IMHO, Sideways was a great movie and Batman Begins and Revenge of the Sith were good movies. "Doom" strikes me as nothing more than contrived garbage. Plot? Theme? Oh, that's right, it's just a mindless action movie aimed at teenagers and pre-teens.

No kidding. Lets see what is Doom the game? No real plot, just kill stuff, get keycard, kill more stuff, kill even more stuff in even more obscene ways (lets a use a chainsaw now), more keycards, fight boss. Would you want them to try to get shakespeare to do the script? Seriously.

Actually a funny thing. While watching AMC's DVD_TV of Friday the 13th, I found out that Siskel apparently hated that film enough to have a personal vendetta against it. He tried several things to get it to fail, including giving away the ending in his review of it. Just thought that was interesting. Ebert on the other hand tried to defend the people who made it (although it didn't say if he actually liked the film or not, just that he tried to defend them).

I saw it on opening night. It was great. I thouroughly enjoyed it. Many people go in there with a closed mind about the movie and have their decision made before the previews are finished rolling.

Ok, when you think sideways and Revenge of the Sith are good movies, your opinion no longer counts much. Revenge was SOOOOO bad. It contradicted half the things from the original movies, well that is until lucas goes back and remakes them AGAIN.

Back to the OP topic...

I saw it. It wasn't nearly as bad most people made it out to be. It had little to do with any demons, it was all genetic manipulation. It reminded me of the Resident Evil movies. Almost exactly like the RE movies..... The only thing I didn't get was the end.
What came through the arc to kill everyone? I don't remember them fighting it, just the Rock, who was the boss.

The FPS cutscene/short wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. They only did it once and that was enough for me.

There's definitely room for debate about Revenge of the Sith and all of the Episode I-III movies are suspect anyway, but I enjoyed it.As for Sideways, it was one of the most intelligent comedies I'd seen in a long time.

OK, maybe Doom is about on par with Resident Evil, but I certainly wouldn't want to pay to see it. Maybe it would be worthwhile as a Saturday afternoon popcorn flik if it shows up on cable.

Mindless killing is good. I just spent the last month studying for the comprehensive exam for my masters degree. At this point all I want is mindless violence. I think I will go buy Quake 4.

Because the "Movie Reviews" forum has been closed.

not that I'm not interested, but why is this in the video forum?

A new movie which will be headed for video in a few months based the video game that started the movement that made video cards such a major factor? I don't know why that would be in video.

Maybe it's because I'm in college, but I couldn't stand to watch more than a half hour of Sideways...

It shouldn't be. This belongs in off-topic, but whatever. :p

exactly, if the video forum becomes the place to stick movie opinions it's going to get annoying fast.

Siskel has been dead for years....

I don't think Doom is the game that made "video cards such a major factor". It had been always rendered in software mode (Unless you count the unofficial mods)

That game was Quake when Voodoo came out.

But....but.....Dude! They fall in love and find each other at the end!

Heh Sideways is worth watching if only for the hilarious scene where he retrieves his buddies wallet from the fat waitress.

Reading comprehension...... is it taught in school at all anymore?

the video game that started the movement that made video cards such a major factor

id had mild success with Wolfenstein3D, DooM is the title that was a major hit for them and ended up driving the funding for the development of Quake. Without DooM, there was no Quake. DooM popularized first person shooters- it is the game that started the movement that made video cards such a major factor.
