Performance numbers produced by AMD internal testing show the performance benefits of Vulkan versus OpenGL implementation:
Up to 27% faster performance at 1920x1080 using Radeon Software 16.7.1 and DOOM Vulkan on Radeon™ RX480 than with Radeon Software 16.7.1 and DOOM OpenGL.1
Up to 23% faster performance at 2560x1440 using Radeon Software 16.7.1 and DOOM Vulkan on Radeon™ RX480 than with Radeon Software 16.7.1 and DOOM OpenGL.2

Briefing testing with my Fury X on the Kadingir Sanctum indicates I got a massive boost in FPS, from 80ish to around 130-140 FPS. Crazy.

EDIT: I'd give it about a 30-40% increase in FPS for my Fury X overall.

Awesome. Free FPS. The low level era is officially arriving. The last big benefit of consoles has finally come to the PC. I hope some reviewers do a CPU / GPU roundup on some older CPUs with modern midrange cards to see what happens.

It would be really interesting to see how those dirt cheap i5-760s on eBay fare in modern DX12/Vulkan games across all major titles with it.

If Doom and RotR go on sale sometime soon I may do this evaluation on my guest PC with a i5-750 @stock and 7950 @ stock. I'll be building a second guest computer soon with an old Q9400 which I may have to try too but that one only has 4gb RAM and I'm not keen to buy overpriced used DDR2

Sweet performance increase, makes the RX 480 look even sweeter too!

Would be nice to see an AIB RX480 & Doom with Vulkan bundle. :)

As far as major releases go, Vulkan is now on Ashes, Dota 2, Doom and... Talos? Meanwhile DX12 is on 14 games with 12 more announced. I hope y'all like Windows 10 and new GPUs only.

If you have Windows 10, you should try it on your GTX 770 Rig.

Though at the same time it should be mentioned that when it comes to older cards, id is specifically recommending against using Vulkan under Windows 7 with 2GB NVIDIA cards, which rules out some early Kepler cards.

GTX 770 went from 60 to 70ish FPS. Nice gain I will say. High settings 1080p.

Different reports here as well.

Performance increased insanely well. Just tested with a GTX980. From my brief testing in Kadingir Sanctum start area. Vulkan FPS: around 140 , OpenGL FPS: around 100 . Same settings for both APIs. I swear Vulkan loads faster too.
My brother's 390's framerate has nearly doubled from 60 to 100-110 FPS. Crazy. Not sure what his graphics settings are at.

390 OPENGL: UAC LOOKING AT FIRST GORE NEST - ~73FPS
VULKAN: UAC LOOKING AT FIRST GORE NEST - ~110 FPS

Just tested it out on the Fury X and Holy Shit!! At least a 30% increase in framerate, running it at Ultra 1440p 144hz, hitting close to 110 at points and goes down to 65-70 when shit gets crazy. Very impressive and makes me even more excited for what Vulkan can do.

Makes me wonder if the CPU is coming to play here, some people are getting crazy increases.

Sounds like both AMD and Nvidia cards are experiencing fantastic performance increases!

EDIT: I haven't bought Doom yet, I'm in between gaming rigs. I have a GTX 860m laptop (aka GTX 750 TI GM107), I had to run the demo at 900p medium settings to get OK frame rates, I wonder if the demo will be updated. Probably not, but I'd love to test just for the fun of it.

Green man gaming has DOOM on sale for $35.99 before the JULY20 20% coupon code. Should be $28.80 after coupon according to my email.

Tomb Raider currently cdkeys.com has the cheapest price it looks like.

I already played thru Doom in OpenGL with my 390(s) but recently switched to a GTX 1070 so I'll have to give it a whirl and see how it performs.

Not surprising.

OpenGL performance has never been that high of a priority for either AMD or Nvidia.

They both focused on DX11 performance in their drivers.

Thanks for the info! 28.80 is a very tempting price...

Will have to try it out!

Was hitting 80-95fps generally, so 10-20% more would keep me pegged at 100hz, which would be perfect.

From the DOOM Vulkan update FAQ:
Does DOOM support asynchronous compute when running on the Vulkan API? Asynchronous compute is a feature that provides additional performance gains on top of the baseline id Tech 6 Vulkan feature set. Currently asynchronous compute is only supported on AMD GPUs and requires DOOM Vulkan supported drivers to run. We are working with NVIDIA to enable asynchronous compute in Vulkan on NVIDIA GPUs. We hope to have an update soon.

Hmm where have we heard that before?

Come on Nvidia, been a year since Ashes first added it in DX12 and support is still missing?

Massive FPS gain here on my single FuryX in 5760x1080 but unfortunately Flawless Widescreen does not recognize the new API so the ultra wide FoV fix isn't yet working. :(

Could you please not try to turn this into an AMD vs NV discussion? Thanks.

We know that Maxwell GPUs don't really benefit from Async Compute, but Pascal GPUs seem to. Hope they get support in for Pascal users ASAP.

I could never get VSYNC to work with DOOM and my 390.... I'm going to have to reload and see if this fixes that for me.

Oh nice, I bought this game during the Summer Sale and have been meaning to start it soon. I'll assume from the OP just to go straight to Vulkan then since I have the same architecture GPU.

Pascal doesn't seem to either, and its not enabled in Vulkan yet so can't test it here. I wasn't trying to turn this into AMD vs Nvidia, but pointing out that the game's FAQ states that its not enabled for Nvidia cards.

I am now worried about Nvidia. Neither Vulkan nor DX12 seems to help it in any meaningful way.
