Doom III Trailer @ Doom3.com

I am actually glad its coming out in July (well it may, gamestop has the 1st as the eta). By then I may have one of the new gfx cards.

Wow... just wow.

Even though all fps games today are pretty much the same, the detail alone on the maps in D3 will make it worth getting.

I have to say that HL2 pwns Doom3's ass, if only because it will be more than a technology demo, which is all that idsoftware is capable of doing; making engines. Hopefully somebody will apply a game worth playing to this doom3 engine, and then we can really talk 🙂

Although I'm very much looking forward to HL2, Doom wins for most visceral raw killing/fear factor. You know what I mean......

I'll take Doom 3 myself.......

If this is the demo where you see the zombie pulling on the starter cord for the chainsaw, I love that trailer.
And why do they only have a small version up? Where's the full screen version?

I have been holding out on an upgrade for two years but with the UT2004 demo and impending release of HL2 I upgraded yesterday 🙂

Oh yeah, because Valve has made so many great games. There's half life, then there's half life, then there's half life for ps2, and you can't forget half life. And of course there's always half life. Valve's impressive lineup of half life, half life, half life, and half life completely outdo everything Id has ever done. I mean, what games has Id really made? Doom? Who played that game? And the quake series, now those games really sucked ass.

In summary, saying that all Id is capable of doing is making engines is just stupid. To say that Doom 3 will be only a technology demo is even stupider. It's bordering on insanely bleeping idiotic.

Half-life packed more game play than all that idsoftware has done in the past decade. I said they're an engine shop because they are. Did you even play doom? Doom 2? Quake? Q2? Q3? In fact let me ask you if you've played only one of them, because if you have, you've played them all. Idsoftware's take on gaming is to throw more detail into it with better graphics, but the graphics in my garage are a hell of a lot better and you don't see me playing in there all day because it's boring and tedious - just like everything idsoftware makes now.

HL2 demo blows this thing away. Out of the water. It shows that their technology is up to snuff, and unlike idsoftware they actually understand the importance of at least SOME story. Hell, Q3 didn't even TRY and have a story. It wasn't even a poorly written paragraph at the beginning of the game.

Not all games need a story. Q3 was just a deathmatch game. NHL 2004 is just a hockey game. Then there's racing games, etc etc.

Demo this, screenshots that, let the released game tell the story.

The large one is on that site too...its just hidden. Didn't take too much thinking to replace play_small.html with play_large.html

Yeah I guess you got me with the racing and NHL arguments 😉

Link It will still need a new vid card at some point, but I've patched my non-gaming problem for now 🙂

That's cause I rule 😛

But yeah, the fact that there was no story to Q3 and that it was just a deathmatch game left it kind of lacking. Half-life was just plain awesome, partly because of the story, but mostly because of other things. If doom3 is just "here's a gun, shoot this stuff" then it'll be lacking too; a story would most likely help. HL2 is guaranteed to have a story, and it'll most likely be a great one. I'll probably buy both games.

That's what I call a budget machine!!

just some advice, when you do get around to getting a new video card, if they haven't released anything new; go with nvidia's 5900 series. I have seen the 9800XT in action and have to say it is really not any better than my oc'ed 5900 nu. just my $0.02 though, by all means do what you want 😉
