Doom III multiplayer

I tried to set up a multiplayer game last night for my brother and I to play on. I set the password and started the server up. He could see it put everytime he entered the password it said invalid. When I turned the password off he still could not join it would say something about not being able to connect. We also tried to join just some games running on the internet that were not passworded, but we could never both join the same game. Sometimes it would say the game was full or ask for a password even though one of us just entered the game without typing a password. We both are behind routers and we opened port 27666. We tired for about an hour trying to get this work before giving up. Can you anyone help us?

case sensitive? using the same copy of doom to play against each other?

Both are retail copies of the game. The password was a number so case is not an issue.

Any other suggestions. Also how many online games do you usually see online 25, 100, 500, etc.?
