XP 2500

FX5800
Timedemo score of 51fps

Now you I would think with a score of 51fps that I could run this game but after trying three different nivdia display drivers, new NForce drivers, advanced all off, doom config file changes I can not get this game to run at a playable level! on 640x480 on medium detail I will get 60fps walking down a hall but if there are any fancy lights, smoke and SOMETIMES when there is an enemy I drop to single digits. So I thought okay it is just my system too slow, then yesterday at a computer store a system with 512mb,5600 and 2.6intel was able to run it playable on 800x600 with medium detail although a time demo run gave it a 10fps score. So WTF am I missing? Are these people with similar or lower systems saying they run the game on high detal at 1024 all smoking crack or am I missing something?

Hm. Not sure naturr, there are a ton of doom3 tweak sites out there. Go run through some of them. Probaby the biggest one I heard of was people inadvertently having their settings on for hardware acceleration on dual monitors.

I'm running 1600x1200, 8AF, noAA, detail on High. It stays pegged at 60 but will occassionally drop to 25 in a firefight.

Athlon XP 3000, 1gig 3200 cas2, 6800GT.

I would guess there is nothing wrong with your hardware.

Mercenary I think you were right I have changed everything since last time I tried but I went back in turned off the aa and af put image quality to quality set singe monitor performance (running dual) and I am now playing 1024 high detail all advanced setting on and short of getting jumped on I am 58+fps! Thanks a bunch! Now if only this game was really fun. At least I feel better about half life coming out!

If you're not having fun, crank up the difficulty. The game should scare the living sh1t out of you. If it doesn't you're really going to miss the experience.

You know picking up "that" item is going to spring a trap. You should be low on ammo and dreading it. Be sure to play by yourself with lights out.

I'm definately looking forward to halflife, but I have no complaints about Doom.

So far, I'm near finishing Alpha Labs and my feeling of it all has developed from "scared sh!tless" to "bored sh!tless." No complaints about the graphics, sounds, weapons nor difficulty levels -- all of em blow me away. It's just -- well it sounds ironic -- that the simplicity of gameplay is becoming a rigmarole. The only thing that keeps me going for now is the prospect of delivering ownage using the BFG9k, and this funny Soul Cube gimmick that people keep gushing about.
