DOOM fails to start.

Ok, so I decided to pick up the new Doom...and while the download from Steam was huge, it did download after a few hours...and installed.

But, when I go to launch the game...whether I use the Steam play button, desktop shortcut or the .exe in the install location...I get the same result. The Steam box opens and states...Preparing to launch Doom.

And it goes no further. Everything just stops. I have tried several different sets of drivers...same result. Windows 7 Home Premium is updated with the same result.

I have also verified the integrity of the files through Steam, and I get the same result.

Checked around online for several days now, and there are a lot of options to try, to get the game to launch...but...not a single one works for me.

Has this happened to anyone else ? I have had the game for 4 days now, and I have yet to even see the main menu.

Advice ? Options ? Anything ? lol.....Im at a loss here.

Which potential fixes have you tried so far? Mostly seems to be solved by one of the following:

1. Set the .exe to run as an administrator.

2. Updating GPU drivers.

3. Delete game .exe and then verify game files.

4. Delete game config file and launch again. Config file should be in C:\Users\<your username>\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base

5. If #3 doesn't seem to work, edit the config file and change r_renderAPI setting between 0 and 1.

6. Add +r_renderAPI -0 to the launch options for the game in Steam.

How long do you wait for it to start? On my six year old machine, with the game loaded on a spinning disk, it takes several minutes for Doom to start. The first two minutes, nothing, the next three minutes is a blank, black monitor. Then the loading icons start popping up.

I have waited up to 15 minutes. When it closes, all processes that deal with that...closes as well.

Tried everything above...same result.

Edit...I do not have the cfg file in my saved game folder. I have not created a save yet?

Issue still persists. So far have tried everything under the sun.

Doom did not start for me when I reinstalled steam.

Updated GPU drivers to newest and all is fine.

So, what happens if you go into the Doom directory, and run the game from there?

Same thing happens....quick popup from steam that says....preparing to launch doom...then everything closes.
