Doom 3 vs Far Cry

I chose FarCry by a nose. FarCry is MUCH more fun to play, but Doom 3 looks simply amazing. Seeing as to how Far Cry also looks great, I chose it.

Farcry had some cool vehicles. But I got so bored that I ended up taking a break from the game twice simply because of lack of any direction. In fact, I didn't even expect the ending when it hit. Had to vote Doom3 for a more solid game, albeit criticized more by the general ATOT population.

Farcry! The Doom3 engine looks a bit better in my opinion but Farcry has this neat thing called "ai".

I only finished the first level of Doom3, it's simply too repetitive to enjoy. Every room is a "I wonder what panel will fly open next" event... not much fun to be honest. In Farcry you can replay a save point and get different engagements each and every time.

Now here's a thread I like from you user1234! 😛

BTW... how often do you change your sig? Almost every time I see you post it's different.....

I voted D3... I just like the arcadey feel, and I love the darkness, as well as the sound combined with my Klipsch Promedia Ultra 5.1's... they create an awesome atmosphere.

(I'm one of those who actually likes the style of gameplay that Doom3 offers)

for nostalgic reasons i vote for doom3.

from sprites/dulltexturedlowpolyenv to bump-mapped/textured/polygonenvironmentncharacters.

I like outdoors games with occaisional indoors stuff so Far Cry was ideal for me. Not a fan of overly dark games cuz my comp is in a bright room and I simply can't play dark games until it's dark out here 🙁.

I also like scenery that I can use for wallpaper 🙂.

I have much more fun playing a game where I can see. Half Life managed to be fairly scary sometimes and you could still see stuff... Morrowind tombs are really creepy and you can see just fine. Mars has the power to sustain life and run all those computers, but not turn the lights up?

I agree, even in far cry I preferred the outdoor levesl to the indoor ones, and especially the ones where you ride boats on the water (boat and river levels) because you have so much firepower on these patrol boats it's a blast !!!

wow, cool !!!! that must be better than any doom character models.
I wonder if the votes for doom where from people that did not play far cry.....

I voted for Far Cry, and that may not be entirely fair. I finished far cry but am only about one hr into Doom3 (so far have spent more time just twealking it, trying to get rid of sound problem).

EDIT: Played some more last night. I'm liking it. Reminds me of System Shock 2. Easy fix for sound problem:

Sound Problems:
If you have an nforce2 motherboard and you get sound crackling or cutout every once in awhile then type this in the console (ctrl-alt-~ for console): s_restart
or type this to bind it to a key: bind "q" "s_restart"
