Post the ending! I'm never going to play it. I want to know why it's so bad.

I dunno, it was more abrupt than I thought it would be, but overall, I think it was well done.

*spoilers*

The white screen with Dr. MacNeil's voice saying "Welcome home, Marine" could mean either he was rescued, or the wounds inflicted in that final battle were fatal, and he ascended to where the religious believe the redeemed go. If one chooses to go with the second interpretation, it could also play the spin that Dr. MacNeil is a divine agent, and the player character was chosen as the warrior for the Heavens.

I thought the ending put a nice spin into the series, taking Doom beyond "science gone wrong" and into a possibly more epic scope.

The third and most obvious scenario is that the Marine is now stuck in hell and Dr McNeil is evil.

I don't know, but it felt to me like he had arrived at earth safely. Still better than HL2 IMO. But HL2 is just a small chapter in the life of Gordon Freeman. While D3:RE had total closure to it, at least IMO, HL2 just created questions, and although, HL2 has a more realistic outcome, it's still a bit unsettling.

The third and most obvious scenario is that the Marine is now stuck in hell and Dr McNeil is evil.
Bright white light never signifies hell, but heaven instead. I would agree more with him dying and going to Heaven than Hell.

OH no, "Battle Out of Hell" :p
Wait, that name is taken

(he ain't gonna 'battle out of heaven' or do you think the Doom series is 'finished'?)
(and there was lots of 'white light' in PainKiller)

Well I didn't play painkiller.

But do you really thing they'd make another game revolving around the expansion pack character.

Bright white light? Like the bright lights you see in hospitals or labs in the movies? Maybe they're injecting him with the T virus in a basement in Racoon City...

Maybe...but the concept of heaven doesn't really fit into the vibe ID or Doom 3 create.

Actually it can, considering blinding white light is just as bad as pitch black darkness...its equally as maddening.

I agree, I spent 2 straight hours playing for some grand end cinema scene, I was very dissapointed, it was L A M E!!!!!

edit: And in fact, I thought the game had some other major flaws too! Let me list them :)

- Lack of cinematics. Doom 3 was actually interesting, you would be motivated to play, to see how the GOOD story progressed through cinema scenes. Such as finding Bravo team.

- Poorly planned plot, the disaster that happened in doom 3 is completely overlooked? The "attack on the base" happens in the exact same fashon as doom 3. Why does the marine just decide to grab the artifact in the first place?

- SHORT, I was able to beat it, on merine mode, over a course of 3 days, only playing for less than 2-3 hours a day.

CONCLUSION! $30 I could have spent elsewhere :(

One issue I have with the expansion is the same I had in the original Doom 3..lack of Hell levels. I want more Hell levels! I thought they looked great and it would have been nice to have some scary Hell stuff instead of more dark labs, hallways, construction sites...etc...zzzzzz....
